Good move, Charlie!

Hopefully this one will last a long time. Is it possible to add lubricant or something to the fuel? Some synthetic two stroke oil should keep everything lubricated.

The mechanic suggested Sea Foam. He's also a tow truck driver and they use it on their diesel trucks.

Here's a kit to add a filter downstream of the HPFP:

I’m not sure of seafoam (isopropyl alcohol) in a common rail diesel. Let alone one that has emissions equipment.

Really glad to hear that you got it fixed. That was waaaay cheaper than buying another car. As for Seafoam, it’s great for cleaning out fuel systems, (or keeping them clean), but doesn’t do anything for lubricity that I’m aware of.

That is what damages expensive pumps, lack of lubrication that used to be in diesel fuel. Still, these modern systems should be designed to operate well on modern fuel blends but reality is that they do not always, as you have already experienced.

I run Hotshot's Secret Everyday Diesel Treatment in both my diesels.
Any of the major brand additives will work also. ( Howe's, Power Service....)

Some guys use a mix of 2-stroke and Marvel Mystery oil added to their fuel.

Was an issue with the 2nd gen Cummins, where the lift pumps were cooking because of the crappy ULSD's lack of lubricity, which in turn would shred the Bosch injector pump.

It happens to be a 2013 diesel Cayenne, but it happens to all brands of diesels, apparently. It has 188,000 miles. The engine lost significant power so I took it to a Porsche dealer. They said the high pressure fuel pump failed, releasing metal shavings throughout the fuel system. It would cost $30K to repair, so the car is worthless now. Is there any known simpler fix? Anyone familiar with this?

my 2011 VW TDI schiessed its fuel pump and VW fixed it free. I think they were trying to avoid a recall or class action lawsuit. A recall would have forced them to replace every car that had it so the 5 or 6 percent that were failing was the easier fix.

I think they replaced the entire fuel system; tank injectors pump filter and all lines.

Same with mine but it was covered under the dieselgate warranty.
