I take the fun route. That is, the road that has less traffic and less traffic lights. I hate stress whether its personal, work or traffic. I eliminated the work one 5 years ago.

Oklahoma was laid out in a one square mile grid, much like a chess board. There is one trip I made to a service provider for my business. It is pretty much south west, and I can chose a north south or a east west road and it is pretty much the same distance. Some roads are more crowded with traffic, but the roads are better, and 4 lane. Some have red lights, and some are just 4 way stops. Some go over the original Rt66, some are very wooded, and hilly and very pretty, some more industrial. I mix it up all the time, and unless I am in rush hour, it is pretty much the same time, only the view is different.

There is not one curve, all just straight roads.

I'll be up in Tulsa tomorrow for the weekend.

I won't take the 35/44 route through OKC because I hate that drive. I go 75/66 because it's just an easier ride.

35 is consistently faster anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour depending on what time and day of week but the ride is too boring and stressul.

I'm not in that much of a rush anymore.

So the question, which route do you take? The one that is actually faster or the one that feels faster.?

I will always take whichever route allows me to drive faster.

Especially if there is less traffic lights and/or stop signs.

Well thats the crux of it isn't it.

Time is a social construct.

We use it to measure events among other things.

If you experience less measured time longer is it really shorter than perceived time?

Unless it is demonstrably faster, I’d like to go with what feels faster and what’s moving.

That would seem obvious.

I've got 3 main routes to drive to work - we are told to report in 3-5 days per week now :(

Waze normally shows them to be within about 3-4 minutes of each other, but sometimes will recommend a 4th route which I know has way too many turns. I'll opt for one of the other options even though they may be a few minutes longer.

I had that too.

I said to GF that it's not a race. No breaking road rules and to just drive as you normally would so she went one route and I went the other.

Yep, one was faster and easier, although it was slightly more distance.

Wife and I did that recently, too. She always leaves the house going one way; I always leave the house via another route. We were taking 2 vehicles on a short out-of-town trip to visit some friends and she was staying up there while the house was getting tiled, while I came home at the end of the weekend to be there with the tile crew.

We left at the same time, went our separate routes and where the 2 routes converge to head out of town...I was a few car lengths ahead of her. I won. :p

Hahah, well done.

Yeah GF and I had driven one route or the other many hundreds of times and it was really hard to tell. Maybe it's the old man in me speaking but I really do prefer the faster and easier other than trying to dart between cars on busy give way interestions.

Id rather drive an hour extra out of the way, than sit in traffic for 10 mins..

Same here, I take the route I enjoy driving the most. If it takes longer, I’ll just allow more time.
