My Friends Competing in the 2023 La Carrera Right Now

If your intrigued by adventure and air-cooled Porsche content I encourage to follow @53porsche_lcp on Instagram. It is the account documenting the daily happenings of two adventurers from Charlotte NC during the 2023 La Carrera Panamericana - currently underway. They adventurers are Nico Venchiurutti and Pedro Campuzano.

Nico's '53 Pre-A 356 was a regular in the Charlotte car show scene over the last 10 years. Nico had a dream to compete in the La Carrera and was connected to Pedro by a mutual friend. Pedro had a similar thirst for adventure and Nico's 356 was then built up by Pedro (an engineer and fabricator) over the last 18 months in Pedro's home garage. The pair then drove the 356 from Charlotte to the starting line in Veracruz Mexico. They did not trailer it. They will drive it back to Charlotte too after the race and a stop at COTA.

They just completed the 4th stage and are probably around 35th place overall. The car is beautiful and Nico and Pedro both look the part of throwback racing drivers. We had a send-off dinner for them right before they departed with some local Porsche racing "royalty". Both Nico and Pedro are genuinely nice guys and it seems like they and their little 356 have become quite the media darlings for Mexican TV. Here is a little clip of them on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CyevTuWRgVD/?igshid=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng==

Look at those smiles...building memories for the days when they are no longer able to do stuff like this. More power to them! Tip of my hat..

They finished stage 7 and the La Carrera overall which was their main goal. Still unsure of their final standing as the Stage 6 was cut short early due to the death of one of the competitors. (Apparently it was a Mexican gentleman driving a hot rod Studebaker). Really happy for Nico and Pedro.

Nico and Pedro and their 1953 356 got 2nd in their class. Not too shabby for a couple of home garage privateers from Charlotte. Now they have to drive it all the way back!
