Diesel pepper wagon - very tempting

So I have been half heartedly been thinking about adding a Macan or Cayenne to the fleet . This diesel Cayenne just popped up locally . High mileage but appears to be in good shape . Is this a run Forrest run or a diamond with some coal dust in it ?

Just minor damage to the front reported. 2 owners. Seller seems fairly honest in the ad, but it looks like a money pit. Good PPI!

This is junk, don't even have to go look at it.

"I keep coolant and oil topped off as needed" = Probably burns / leaks oil and coolant.

"window controls work but couple buttons worn" What does that even mean?

"door lock paddle control ($5) missing but functional." = Can't bother to fix a $5 part?

" Had an accident before I purchased it, I’ve NOT noticed any defect in the quality of the ride or handling, but the dashboard upholstery has come up along the windshield""
And if the guy noticed anything, I am sure this sale ad would be the place we'd find out. What's the dash leather coming up along the windshield? Is that from the accident?

"And the hood paint was not to my quality expectations so I had it professionally repainted a couple years back (transferable warranty)."
The hood or the entire car?

"Check engine light comes on but again no change in quality of ride, mechanic has indicated exhaust systems are finicky with the diesels." = Probably has a cracked DPF or similar. WHAT ARE THE CODES? And why isn't it being fixed?

I had a couple diesels of this generation and no more. The days of simple and reliable diesels that save you money are gone. I recommend a N/A gas burner. You'll pay more at the pump but much easier and cheaper in the long run.

My conversations with the seller regarding having to top off fluids on a regular basis made the decision for me . I asked some basic qualifying questions and he wouldn't or couldn't answer any of them . So for me this one is a no . Thanks guys

For what it's worth I have a '15 Cayenne Diesel approaching 100K miles which has been absolutely bulletproof. Change oil religiously and keep up with maintenance but no issues at all. Comfy, somewhat fun and great mileage. Tows better than my previous X5 diesel.

Like I predicted. Why would someone point out "topping off". It is a backwards way of saying that the car leaks or burns fluids. The whole ad is a way of telling the truth without telling anything.

Yes, and that Pelican was me. I bought my '13 diesel two years ago with 175,000 miles on it. It's been great until recently when something went wrong and metal shavings got into the fuel system. Maybe it was the high pressure fuel pump. I'm going to have the fuel system torn apart next week by a friend who will fix it cheap. The dealer cost is over 30K, but they replace every single component whether it's necessary or not. The dealer is $300 per hour vs $30/hour for my guy. So it might be worth fixing.

The metal shavings in the fuel seems to be an issues with all modern diesels, although it's rare.

Not for quite a while. We used to see that on the 4.5 but the DFI motors have been great in my experience
