Have you been on the radio?

I was on the radio today which was fun. Never have been, at least in this spur of the moment call in. Have had radio interviews but that's not really the same at all.

There was a segment about bad dating, apparently there's a list of bad first date activities you should never do but then they wanted listener audience suggestions/experiences of good first dates.

I called in, got the screener and then was on the air describing a great first date I planned of getting some canvases, paint brushes and acrylics and having a picnic on the banks of the Charles just painting and having salmon sandwiches and stuff.

Had fun talking with the DJs and they just replayed it at the end of the show which was cool.

Morning radio talk DJ must be an amazing job.

I was the MC of "The Home Repair Show" on WYSO back in about 1970. People called in and asked questions about their houses, cars, lawnmowers, etc. It only lasted a few months, but it was fun. I've been interviewed for radio and TV in association with our magazines.

Our NPR station had a question and answer segment on dogs, they invited people to call in and ask vets questions. My dog Maddie was very ill and we were struggling with knowing when to - you know. I called up and asked how you know when it's time. I barely made it through the question.

So, has anyone here ever cried on the radio?

I won a radio contest. A Valentine's day question: "What is the best thing your significant other say to you on Valentines Day?"

My answer was that her mother had decided to move to Australia.

I think it was an amazing job at one point. But now the salaries and talent just arent what they used to be. The djs could be regional or even national celebreties with big paychecks. Those days are long gone. How many syndicated programs are even around for drive time radio?

I worked at our local rock station for a couple years and learned quite a bit about what goes on behind the curtain…

Back in the 80's I was interviewed by our local AM station here (WSBB) on the subject of landscaping. I have a cassette of it somewhere....

Never. But then again I think my voice sounds like Jeff Spiccoli.

I had a radio show at a local Community College back in the 70's.

I recently found some old tapes and had to buy a reel-to-reel to listen to them.
Most were too degraded to hear, but I remember why I didn't go into radio.

You can bake tape to restore playback. But apparently, it's a one-shot deal to transfer to digital.

A few times on a local show that had a car theme. Once for Unimogs and another time for Mercedes W123 cars. There was a pod cast made from it as well, so I got to share with some family and friends.

No, never been on the radio, but I've been told I have the face for it.

I was never on the radio, but I took a friend to a car dealer to pick up his car.
Huge place. Acres of cars. This was before cell phones. Dealer handed him a phone to make a call, but my friend accidently hit the speakerphone button for the entire dealership.

Over the entire lot's megaphones, the miles of flags and zany wavy inflatable things, realizing he hit the wrong button, my friend exclaimed "F@#$!!!" The dealer hit mute and cut him off.

They handed us the keys and we quickly left.

I wrote comedy bits/jokes for the syndicated radio Greaseman show in the 90s. It was an absolute blast, and I'd give my left one to do again. Here's one from the archive: (Caution: PG-13)

I co-hosted a Friday late night radio show in Charlotte NC back in the early 80's for about 6 months. We got kicked off the station schedule because the music was too much rock for the station's liking.

"A great face for radio" was actually a real expression back at the advent of TV. Some very famous radio personalities couldn't transition to TV because of their looks. Of course it became a joke to use on others.

The university I attended had a small cable-broadcast-only radio station with maybe 20 listeners max at any one time. I DJ'd a late Thursday night stint for a few weeks. I don't know that anybody heard me.

But somebody did tell me once that I have a great face for radio...

Rtrorkt 10-25-2023 06:38 PM

Yes. Had a radio show 1969 west green Ohio U. Broadcast to a men’s and women’s dorm. My lead in was Steve Miller Band “Song for our Ancestors “. Probably had 5 listeners. But who cares. Rolled the music to enjoy.
