Maybe the best BAT auction yet
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/collection-of-engine-transmission-and-other-parts/
Wish him all the best. This is super tempting for a guy looking to invest some fun money .

^^ My question as well. Henry retiring? Sure looks like it. Love his posts on the engine porn thread...

Just read his posts in the auction... The inventory is a separate business he is no longer able to operate. This is separate from engine building which will continue.
It's all laid out pretty clearly.

I wonder if Jeff over at Rothsports is keeping tabs on this bonanza of parts?

Plus, it's way more fun to speculate and jump to conclusions!

I wonder how much for the stuff and the building it is in, so I don't have to move it.
What will the final price be $250,000?

IDK who will buy Henry's stuff. Maybe and likely not a real business person but someone that can afford to warehouse, insure and hold on. In that case they will out bid any prudent offers. Many years ago when Chip Evaul died holding on to a boatload of 911 and 914 parts, I put his widow in touch with an east coast used parts warehouse operation. They had a semi near CA so they came. 10 cents on the dollar swept clean. There are or were people out here not that far away that declined. I will say that I didn't see a row of MFI stacks in the pile. So there's that. |

The sad reality is that the air cooled Porsche hobby is in a slow decline. There are two other significant big lot sales of early parts right now in addition to Henry's. I am sure he tried to hire a replacement parts guy but he cannot run both sides of the business anymore. The young money is chasing GT3s and GT4s. The experts for our cars are aging out with no line of starry eyed young people clamoring to get a foot in the door.
My 27 year old son can appreciate my hot rod 911 but he will never have the bug for it like I do. |

Having parted out 13 911s back when there was such a thing as 911 parts cars (the Restoration Design parcel shelf and seat pan stamping is from one the cars), a friend and I almost bought a collection significantly bigger than Henry's for $500K years ago. But after going through the inventory, it looked like it was $600K sales at the most. Then the seller started saying, oh, that's not part of the deal, that's not part of the deal, that's not... all factory RSR and 935 stuff.
To do well with parts lots you have to buy them at 50 cents on a dollar. Because it's a ton of work to sell parts and what you buy is never in as good shape as you thought and some stuff is just junk. Some times there's a reason it's on a shelf and not on a car.
