I can't help, but I'm glad to see you have found a car that you are interested in.

Good luck.

Mike80911 10-26-2023 12:20 PM

I would call Lynmor Motorsports in Huntington Station. They are the only ones I trust with my car. Always fair and honest with me. Also TKX is right next door to them I have no experience with TKX but I have heard they are good. Feel free to PM me if you need any help with the car I am close by Huntington

Dan J. might know of one.

It was my pleasure. That is what the forum is for fellow Porsche enthusiasts supporting each other's passion for the marque.

^Thats outstanding! Well done, Mike.

Good job.

I thought it all over if I should say what is going on here.
I will.
First, - thanx to all that chimed in and helped ESP Mike80911 !!
Basically - the owner only wanted a real Porsche shop dwn the street to PPI this car.
Fine, so i called them.
They wanted 600 bucks to check fluid levels, brakes, tires, and paint. Just the foo foo stuf is what I call it , lipstick and fingernail polish.
No look into the computer at the DME report.!
No Boresscope!!!!!!!
A very vague PPI I would say?
It was divulged it had seen track time.
How much track time was an unknown.
I wanted the pan dropped and peered into from the bottom side .
This seems like a normal request to me .
As soon as that was asked for from another shop, the sale was canceled because of the prospect of another buyer,!!!
Just bypassing me.!!!!
I told him, it is his car and my money.
It seems to be convoluted.
He should have at least consulted with me about another approach for the PPI, he did not.
All he did just text me and say "The sale was off. " ( because of the prospect of another buyer...) Well, he does not even know what the other buyer might request....
I hate to let a Black Edtion slip by, but this got too weird.
I know others will pop up...

afterburn 549 11-09-2023 01:54 PM

I notice he still has it for sale.
Perhaps I have been culled out...LOL

So 600 for a cursory look. What is a reasonable price for a PPI that looks at all the externals including on a lift and a report on past and present codes? I think cosmetics and body damage, past or present are for someone else to do like a bodyshop. That is if you can't do that yourself. If you know anything about cars, you can do that part.

I once went and looked at a Jag XJ6 and took some gloves and a blanket. After going over the trunk and engine area, I kneeled down on the blanket and shook the wheel while checking out the rotors. The bearing was loose enough for me to feel it there on the ground.

There were some other signs that this wasn't a fluke. I just said thanks but no. Funny, but I looked at another for a couple of minutes when the seller came out with the keys. I was already walking back to my car.

afterburn 549 11-09-2023 03:21 PM

Truthfully, I never balked at the price, just the lack of things on their list I considered mandatory.
In fact, all I really needed was a report on the engine activities from the brain and a boroscope of the cylinders.
Hunting Porche shop said they would do neither!
What?
Yup, "we don't do that".
I don't need them to check the body over or look at tires......

What good is a PPI without the most important two items to be done?
The other shop wanted Only 300 bucks and promised to look in the cylinders and do a brain report.
In there somewhere the seller lost interest in me and said he did not want a boroscope done.
He texted me rather than call and allowed for no conversation.
And
Why should there be?
I can not have the most important details compromised by his idea of protecting his car.
I do think it is a bit convoluted as he had a relationship with Huntington Porshe and I do not.
The Owner of the car said he had another interested party and just dropped me.
Weird correct?
As said it is still for sale ...
It is his car, and can do what he wants.
Not very upright or honest to cancel me the way he did.
OH well....
There will be others for sale.

Zeke 11-09-2023 03:35 PM

I can see the conflict here even if you do not. In fact I talked to a shop yesterday that has worked on my Boxster (which is for sale). The owner told me 800 to do the PPI but he immediately told me 2 things, the buyer usually gets the PPI (even though I said I would pay part) and that since they have worked on the car before that they should be disqualified from doing the PPI.

I said well that's bs in my book because I know they would be honest but I also found out that prices for PPI's have gone way up. I looked at a Cayenne and asked about a PPI at another shop agreeable to the seller and they quoted me 900. This for a 10K car. After paying for CA registration I would be buried.

I think I'm just going to start buying junkers when I need another car. I hope the '96 Jag makes it through one more smog because that's the death nell for that.

afterburn 549 11-09-2023 03:50 PM

I never had a conflict about price, just about what was to be done.
Never got the chance to discuss any other way of doing it, or with whom.
Just the text not wanting the boroscope done at that "other" shop and he had another buyer asking about the car.
I had already invested in about two weeks of screwing with him and text and phone calls!
A fellow pelican had gone looking at it for me who lived a lot closer than I.
The owner could have chosen another genuine Porsche shop for all I care.
The sale to me was canceled without further notice, yet is still for sale.....
He could have even txt or called me back.
Sooooo
it is prolly all for the better.

You dodged a bullet

Hopefully others are as careful as you

afterburn 549 11-09-2023 04:20 PM

I don't want to say there is something wrong with it..
But he sure seems guilty of trying to cover something up?

1990C4S 11-09-2023 04:21 PM

He probably found a buyer that wants a less intrusive PPI. As is his right.

I agree with this. I would not trust a seller not willing to do a level of PPI requested by a prospective buyer. Especially when you are checking for potentially serious issues not uncommon to that vehicle.

Mike80911 11-11-2023 07:31 AM

When I was speaking to him he asked me about the place I recommended for the PPI I told him it was the only person I trusted to ever touch my car. I have a 1989 930 cab and I found this mechanic years ago when I had an 86 930. When I told him about the shop he said I need to get their number for the future. So why now is he balking at taking it there for a PPI, I think there is something he does not want you to find or maybe he just does not want to potentially uncover something unknown. I checked the exhaust and did not see anything unusual like soot or smoke but that was just visual.
I think you dodged a bullet and another one will come your way and if it is in my area don't hesitate to call me, I would be happy to help anyway I can.
This being veterans' day just want to say Thank you for your service to our country.

afterburn 549 11-11-2023 07:39 AM

Thanx again mike, you are a great pelican!
I will repay you some how. We will get together at some point.
Yes there are more cars for sale, all will be ok.
Hope you have a great day off too!

afterburn 549 11-12-2023 01:26 AM

The interesting thing is - the car is still for sale!
He fired me as a buyer and inserted another interested party.
True or not idk. (another buyer)
Obviously, he is no closer to the sale than he was.
So,-
Would it not make sense for him to attempt to sell it to me? Again?
I do think there is a very very dead fish somewhere.
