Google changed their Images format.

It sucks.

Eric Hahl 11-02-2023 07:57 AM

Why does it suck?

Zeke 11-02-2023 09:35 AM

Used to be that if you clicked on an image it appeared on a right side window with a link to the source and similar images. I'm not saying that info is no longer there, it's just not as user friendly.

Now the image is in the center and instead of all the rest of the hits moving to the left of the window, the open window blocks the view of 1/3 the page.

Eric Hahl 11-02-2023 10:24 AM

I see.

Steve Carlton 11-02-2023 11:45 AM

Comes up like this for me.

Looks totally different on my screen. I guess I forgot how to print screen, save and post.
Google says to go to bottom of and image search and find "switch to standard version." Not there.

Eric Hahl 11-03-2023 07:25 AM

Mine still looks the same as well. Not sure how a picture format change would affect this.

If you press Windows logo key + Shift + S, you can also crop the image you want.

That's what mine looked like last week. i'm sure there is a way to go back to the version before, it's just not apparent.

Are you on a regular computer, or a smart phone or tablet of some sort?

Bill Verburg 11-03-2023 11:49 AM

I totally gave up on Google Chrome after 2 of my computers running it refused to load.
solution was to uninstall and erase all google folders
you lose all bookmarks, all passwords all, scheduled appointments.

I tried Chrome and still have it installed, but only use it if I can't get a page to load in Firefox. I've been using FF since it was Netscape in the 90s except for a period of about 6 months WAY back when one of the updates was crap. I've tried Chrome, Opera, etc.... I always end up back on FF.

WHen I was running Windows, I used 1 Firefox, 2 Chrome, and would lastly try MSIE if everything else failed. Now I'm on MacOS and not much has changed, 1 Firefox, 2 Chrome, and if all else fails Safari.

I do a few things that may make browsing a little less user friendly, but faster and safer. I have Pi-hole (DNS blocker for tracking, junk, ads), and I run extensions uBlock Origin and No Script to block anything that sneaks past Pi-hole. That means that I occasionally have to make tweaks to get a page to work.

Firefox for the win!
