Liquid Propane vs Natural Gas
I've been using LP forom day one. Our area is being plumbed for NG. I only use 500 gallons of LP per year and that roughly translates to 70 cubic feet. I have two appliances that use gas so conversion is a non-issue. I don't know what it'll cost to hook up to the main. So, on the surface it looks like a good switch.
Has anyone here switched from LP to NG? Any advice?

I use about twice that amount of propane yearly. There are four other places on my road and myself that the natural gas line doesn't pass. (only 1/4 mile from the existing line)
Last year, they gave all five of us an estimate for hook-up. It was a little over $6K for each...and only if all five of us signed up. Needless to say...no natural gas here yet. (I might do it if the rest agreed.)

You will need the orifice changed in each appliance, not free unless you can do it.

I use propane. We don't have a choice where we live. If I were in the situation to choose, I'd convert your 70 cubic feet of propane to therms. You know the cost for that - although it ranges as prices go up & down for propane. Then convert the equal amount of therms to natural gas and then you can compare the cost of both. Being no expert, that's what I'd look into doing. Then factor in the probable cost of hookin up to the NG to see how long it would take to use up the same cost in propane. That's the only way I can think of approaching a comparison, but like I say I'm no expert.

500 gallons propane is approximately 26 MM cubic feet of natural gas (500 * 92). That seems a bit high.
Even converting to therms the arithmetic just doesn't make sense. Anybody understand this conversion?

Convivence factor. No more changing cylinders or a truck turning up.
