I'm guilty.of letting my inpatients get the better of me (particularly at Target and HD)
Last week I shopped at a local Latino market, while I stopped to look at something a lady with an overflowing cart got in line in front of me. The checker cranked out the order in a minute I'm surprised no one decrying the job loss. Where are teens going to work? Just one step closer to being slaves to our robot overloads. WHO I TOTALLY SUPPORT!!! I'M A RETIRED TECHNICIAN AND WILL BE VERY USEFUL!!! They are listening 😉 |
We have a Target right next to our nearby Lowe's. I was at Lowe's getting some stuff, and thought, I need something from the grocery store and Target is next door.
I walked in and looked at the check out and saw 25 lanes, but just one (1) actual checker and a line of 6 or so people waiting in line. I then looked at the self checkout area. They have about a dozen self checkouts and there was a line to get into that area. I was stunned how busy they were. I just turned around and said screw it, I don't need that stuff that much. If they hired a few checkers it would be no problem. They have the hardware and infrastructure in place, all ready to use. All they need is some employees. I ain't gonna be one of them. And I will not wait in line to do it myself. |
Or you could get the worst of both worlds. In Cuautitlan Mexico, Walmart has two options, a 20+ minute line-up for a cashier, or ten minutes to self-scan, but you can't pay at the scanner, you need to scan, take your receipt to the 'pay here' line up, and pay the cashier behind the glass....all while being herded like cattle in a tight space, and carrying ten items.
Sometimes you appreciate things more when you see how bad it can be. |

But really I don't go in there. There is nothing they have that I have to have. |

She will get you in&out in 30 minutes 😛 |
I like them - I haven’t had to deal with a cashier in 20 years minimum. I’ll admit they don’t seem popular here in KY, especially with older folks like me - I’ve seen the self-checkout lanes wide open with 10 people waiting for one or two cashiers.

I chose to use "self checkout" but...
FWIW: This is a recent change at the local super market, "Coles". Note that's me and I took the picture just before paying. What this means: They are now recording a "close up ID video" of every customer using their self check out. Being really honest I understand why they would enable this feature but every square inch of the store has been covered by video cameras for decades... So to me this "feels like" bullying or intimidation and again I get why. In general "some people" will steal if they think they can get away with it. FYI: The self check out stations at "Coles" have always had built in video cameras at the top of the screen. Yours probably do also. All they have to do is enable it. Or was it always enabled but not visible the the customer? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1700101606.jpg |
I like them...always happy to have my picture taken. :)
