Seeing mice is good, because it means you probably don't have rats (who eat mice).

We have had pet rats on and off - currently I've taking care of my daughter's two pet rats (Al and Simo) while she's in France. They are intelligent, sociable, and very trainable. I let them run around her room (door closed, so the cat doesn't get them) for a few hours. When I come back in the room, they run to me to treats and petting and to ride around on my shoulder, then they head back into their cage because they've learned that's where I put the tasty stuff. So I don't get freaked out by mice and rats . . . but I'd still set traps in your case, since wild mice and rats in the house are a no-no.

We don't have mouse issues (because of the cat) but had a rat in the basement for months, he evaded every trap until we finally got him with one of those RatZappers. I think rats are a lot smarter than mice, when it comes to traps.

Two weeks ago my five year granddaughter went into her classroom and saw a rat. She was the only one in the classroom. She then went and told the teacher who was outside that there was a rat in the classroom. Out of the mouths of babes. The school is still open. :eek:

They are more afraid of you than you are of them and they probably won't nibble on your toes while you sleep.

But make sure your feet don't smell like cheese or peanut butter.

Set a few traps and maybe ask around (Nextdoor, possibly?) for trusted local pest control companies that could check your home for possible entry points.

We have them in the garage / basement most winters.

One of the little ****s was in my fun car - up in the engine bay by the ecu - last december. That one got the poison instead of the little nipper like the others.

I felt something on my leg when I was at a Chinese restaurant in Oakland. I shook my leg and a mouse came running out and across the floor. I told the waiter about it and he said "There's no mice in here!"

Our eldest cat is the mouser in the family. Younger cat will catch them (and lizards) out in the yard and bring them in to play with (never kills).

Old man (name's Scout) is a murderer. Last year, while I was deployed, he deposited the corpses of an entire family of mice on the front doormat for my wife in the course of 2 days. She said there were about 10 in total.

Such a good cat.

Keep plants and brush away from the foundation, fill in any small gaps or cracks. They say mice can fit through a 1/4” opening.

Set traps against walls in hidden areas- I like the cheap spring traps; I put peanut butter on and underneath the bait holder and usually put several traps next to each other so if one misses them, their panic escaping usually sets off the next one nabbing them.
