The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes
So many times, most of the time, sequals, prequals never live up to the original. Most not even close.
It is abundantly clear that the creators of the franchise will have none of that. Which leads me to my one big problem with the movie: the first half. The imagined dystopia is far too real. Far too believable. The first half of the movie was written brilliantly and with real purpose. The second half played its part with one or two missteps which I'm surprised made it through audience test screens, one in particular, a very serious moment, the audience laughed. More would lead me to spoilers. If you liked the first trilogy, this is a must see. <iframe width="1159" height="652" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/NxW_X4kzeus" title="The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023) Official Trailer 2" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
My wife is a big fan of this stuff.
So, for the record- I showed her your review. It led to an interesting discussion, of both the 1st 1/2and the second 1/2. I figured she'd be ok with the first 1/2, but not want the second 1/2 (my take) She wanted none of either. Interestingly, she was more off put by idea of the first part than the second. Me, the second part reminded me of Star wars 8, Rian Johnson type stuff. Things are getting too real (for her). ... which I understand. But my duty is a husband is to chide- :) I told her if she was so needing escapism, she was getting a stocking full of Marvel movies this Christmas for not liking the similarities to reality. But then she started quoting every line from this series from a literary perspective. Darn readers!!!!!! :D In conclusion- she will eventually watch the movie. I will get to remind her a 'pelican' called it right. She will punch me in the face because the 'guys' from a car site were right. This will be awesome. I am chilling icebags for my face as we speak. Totally worth it! |
Thanks for posting, I would love to hear more details about what you and she liked & disliked about the first half and second half.
And more importantly, after seeing the movie. They really were two separate movies glued together. I'm seeing it again though I dread having to watch the first half again. |
Haven't really followed this series since the first few....Where is Jennifer Lawrence?
