What to do? Kid's ear buds stolen from his volleyball game

He can track his ear buds through his phone. Its in East LA. What would you do. They are 200 bucks. Fking low lifes. Forget using my MG 42 or the two .45 I have strapped to my hip. He's pissed that people would do that. My dumb kid and his whole team is so damn sheltered that they are too trusting of others thinking no one will go through their pile of siht sitting on the bench.

Mount the fleischgewehr to your truck and show the father a lesson.

How old is your son? I always told my son I buy the first one. My kid had his bike and later Ray Bans stolen while at college by thinking everyone is as nice as he is. Since he could do without those things he did, until he could buy his own replacements.

It's a good lesson for the kid and it hurts your butt and his. That's the end of it.

Unless you would like to murder someone or perhaps die yourself about A SET OF EARBUDS.

Another boring Pete post...

If something has been stolen and you can track it I'd call the police and let them handle it.

Regardless of value, theft is theft.

I have thought about it and have him call the police but knowing well in advance that the cops will laugh at him. They aint gonna do siht. My neighbor's up the street told me that his brother had his garage cleaned out and he had tracking devices on his tool chest and other items. He drove by and can see right into their yard that they were his stuff. Cops laugh him out of the station.

Track the items to the house then tip paint stripper over their car. It's important not to lose.

I don't doubt any of this but it's really sad that you're so poorly serviced by your police.

In my state of South Australia if someone makes a complaint to the the police they have to act. They don't get to chose what they do or do not investigate. As far as I know it's the same for the rest of Aus.

Having said that there are a lot of *people who wont go to the police regardless of what happens.

(*mostly ex criminals and people with relatives who are involved with organized crime)

This happened to someone who lived near me years ago. They also poured neat weed killer on their front lawn. I never found out why.

A few years ago I was dating this woman and we went to Home Depot. As we left the car I noticed she left her purse on the passenger seat. When I mentioned that she shouldn’t do that, she went into a rage calling me a paranoid nut. I told her It’s her choice to have her purse stolen but I’m not dealing with a broken window because of it. That was the end of that relationship. Some people never learn, or it takes them well into adulthood. It was quite stunning that an almost 40 year old could be so naive and selfish. And she was from LA which I thought meant she had some worldly experience.

When I was in Jr High School, some people I thought were my friends got my locker combo and stole my G&S Neil Blender skateboard- my prized possession….in college, one of the kids that hung around went into my dorm room and stole a watch my grandmother gave me….on and on

I’ve been ripped off a lot. Fool me once…..it took me a while but I stopped trusting everyone including myself

Your kid learned a valuable lesson, hopefully. Use the wisdom and move forward.

It's a shame it's not possible to disable them remotely. I guess it depends upon exactly where they are as to what I'd do. If it seemed like a nice neighborhood and you thought you could talk to the parents, then maybe go that route. But, I feel like I've read that "East LA" is the potentially rougher part of town?

$200 isn't chump change, but maybe this is a bit of a life education instance. You don't want to put yourself in a dangerous situation for $200, but then do you want to back down when you might have some recourse.

Have you called the police to talk to them and ask them about the situation? It's worth a call to chat to find out what they think is realistic, I would think.

Too bad you can't induce a 240 volt shock remotely when are they are in use.

I had a similar issue, the local police retrieved the item for me. I would go that route, you might find a decent cop. Or track the guy, connect to your earbuds, and play polka music at full volume.

I would not chase $200 earbuds in sht area, armed or unarmed. It's not worth it.

I wouldn’t want the air buds back, but I’d go after the $200, I hate thieves.

And I would teach them a lesson, on top of the $200.

That's not on the list of practical outcomes.
