Safe to leave transformer open?
Just wired in a new 208V to 230V boost transformer for my compressor. These things get hot so I both mounted it on my old compressor tank for 360º cooling and left the bottom cover off.
Any reason why the cover is necessary in this scenario? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1701035947.jpg |
When you invite the first grade class field trip in, you may want to have it covered. Otherwise, I wouldn't think it would be a big deal.

rodents or bugs? im especially wondering about biters or stingers
nm indoors Then only if you are subject to aby kind of inspection |
The lower cover is part of the ground path if wiring shakes loose and has to hit something...

Cover keeps someone from running a fishtape, wire or random object into the marrette or wire nut connection. Better to have it covered.

Good thoughts, thanks, I hadn't thought of these. The yellow compressor is just a tank so it's not vibrating, which I know all about since just the other day I put my wine decanter on top of a speaker and then a good song came on the radio so I turned it up and the decanter vibrated off and shattered pretty spectacularly.
Bill, the compressor is in a storage room that only I would go into but your point is well taken. |
