Alignment needed or not?

Hi all, I am getting new all weather tires installed on my RX350. The Lexus dealer says that an alignment should be done. My local tire store says an alignment may not be needed. Will only do it if it is necessary. My RX tracks straight and steers fine.

Question is should I get an alignment done anyway? Suv has 70k miles.

Cheers, Guy.

I'm sure others will disagree but I feel if there was no unusual tire wear and the car tracks straight then it is not necessary.

I agree. Changing tires is no reason for an alignment if the old tires are worn evenly.

Tire shops love to sell alignments.

I say no need if no odd wear as stated.

The local Lexus dealer has an optical alignment checker as you drive into service, FYI. It's telling you before you get out of the car you need to drop $150. If necessary, it's worth it.

If the car drives fine and the tires wore fine, I don't think you need an alignment.

I suspect the dealer sees that as free money, especially in that kind of situation. They may even tweak something in the alignment, but i think it's BS.

I'd be happy to pay only 150 for a 4 wheel alignment.

Right, I think there are plenty of places where it's closer to $300

I have never had a tire shop try to sell me an alignment when purchasing tires. If your vehicle is tracking straight then I wouldn't mess with it.

+1 (unless one hadn't been done in a long time and it is not a bad idea to check for parts wear IF you trust the alignment place - - - NOT THE DEALERSHIP OR TIRE STORE)

Yes, places that try to "up sell" you a wheel alignment are probably not the best places to get an alignment.

It wouldnt hurt to have it checked, but like the others- that's a pedestrian vehicle in which you can rotate the tires. It's likely fine.

Just look at your old tires, and how long did they last?
I will bet if he (the dealer) touches it, it will come back worse than when he started.
Not that you will notice.
Also in 70K unless you curbed it hard or some other abuse there is no reason it should be out of specs.
