Electrical - NEMA 14-50 Outlet
Hopefully the brain trust can assist with this.
I am storing a car for the winter at my MIL's condo building. A couple of months ago, the building offered to install an EV charging outlet for some of the parking spots and we jumped on the offer as we figured if nothing else it would be good for resale. The building installed a NEMA 14-50 outlet next to one of her spots. I would like to plug my car into a battery tender while it is stored, but there are no conventional outlets nearby. Can I use an adapter like the one below with the 14-50 outlet? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B091557MCN?ref_=pe_386300_442618370_TE_sc_as_ri_0&th=1 Let me know if there is additional info needed to properly answer and I can try to find it out. Thanks

The only two issues I see are.
1. Building management noticing the outlet being used for a (gasp!) IC auto. 2. Neighbor stealing the cord. |

I can't imagine building management is paying for the juice. A battery tender would be a drop in the bucket by comparison.
Even if someone steals the adapter, it's only $33. Who's going to have a need for something like that, anyway? Assuming it's a safe thing to do (seems so to me), I'd be concerned about the quality of the adapter, like not being from some sketchy foreign manufacturer. And that it's sheltered from the weather.

Good point on the adapter. This one from amazon has good reviews, but I can try to find better one also.
We (my MIL) paid to have the outlet installed and I am sure it is tied back to her meter. The garage is indoor so no weather concerns. I wanted to confirm from someone who knows electric better than me that a good quality adapter is legit to use. Thanks

That adapter is fine, you'll be using about 1/50th of the power that outlet can supply. You could probably plug a Tesla AND your battery tender into that outlet together.

Or if it shorts…
Well the small diameter tender cords will probably melt before the breaker is tripped. Both having extremely low probability. Would feel more comfortable with it being gfci outlets, but the risk is low. They sell gfci extension cords I was going to say don’t plug in your toaster and run a bath, but it’s the same analogy.
