Did you make this suggestion in the past? I remember watching it on someone's recco, and it might have been you. And it was fantastic. That guy was a fanatic - in a great way.

I don’t think so but I’ve owned the dvd for as long as I’ve been here so it is possible. It should be recommended in the documentary thread as should Crumb about Robert Crumb (cartoonist) who is also a fanatical 78 collector (and musician https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R._Crumb_%26_His_Cheap_Suit_Serenaders )

Nice interview….quite informative

“In 1955, country music had its last gasp”. Haha gotta love this guy even though I don’t agree with many of his opinions

But he has an Edison cylinder player and several wax cylinders. He also collects music boxes. These are not small things, they use disc's that look like sawmill blades. They were used in bars like player pianos.

I had an Aunt and Uncle that had an upright version of that very thing. It originally was in a store that they owned and they had it in their living room. I remember it had a glass front and you could see the huge metal disc and there was storage underneath with more discs and there was a coin mechanism that had been made inoperable so one could play it without having to pay anymore, I think it cost a nickle, a cousin of mine has the thing now.

My good friend collects them as well and will do dj nights with 78s. Two big old tube amplified 78 players and a wonderfully curated set of records. He has them all broken out by theme. Surprising the amount of drug and sex themed music from the 20s and 30s. Guess there isnt much new under the sun.

yea lots of double entendres. R Crumb has a cover tune called “My Girl’s Pussy” originally from 1931
