The Boy and the Heron
Beautiful, surreal, spiritual, wondrous. How else would you describe Hayao Miyazaki's coming of age/coping with a tragic past epic poem (thank you 9th grade English teacher), complete with a parakeet army that does want to eat you. The score was as beautiful as the animation.
One of those films that if you get it, you'll need to see it twice for full effect. There are far too many layers to be able to taste them all in one bite. It is being shown both in original Japanese with subtitles or English dubbing. I'm a fan of subtitles in all Japanese works.
