USB Connectivity ?

I bought a new external SSD drive, which came with a cord that has USB-C connector on both ends. My computer, a MacBook air, does not have a USB-C port but does have a USB-A port. Can I just connect the SSD to the Mac using a cord that has USB-A on one end and USB-C on the other. I assume they are wired to work that way. Is this correct?

Yes, a USB-A to USB-C cord will do the trick

Gogar 12-12-2023 02:50 PM

yes

GH85Carrera 12-12-2023 03:23 PM

Yea, but the date transfer will be much slower.

Thank you! It's pretty amazing, this tiny 1 TB SSD. 1000 gigabytes and I could hide it in my mouth. The 4TB drives are the same size.

I would, however, strongly recommend it for many reasons.

TimT 12-12-2023 04:42 PM

"Universal" is part of that acronym for a reason

Until they aren't because someone didn't adhere to a standard, or chose to extend the standard ....

Absolutely not. They only make cords that are USB-C on one end and USB-A on the other, not cords that are USB-A on one end and USB-C on the other.

You need to shop in Bizarro World for those cords.

The oil goes in where the 710 cap is.

Yes. Unless you're in Bizarro World, where they make these and not these.

One of those you can plug in correctly 100% of the time. The other you’ll flip over and try again 4 times before it fits.

My first Win 95 was on 15 1.44 MB floppies. CD readers were just coming out for decent prices. I still have my Window 386 box, manual and the Microsooft mouse that came with it.

Notice it says patent pending. And it has a steel roller ball. I used it on my 386 computer I built myself, and it had a 32 MB drive.

Bought a 1 GB SCSI (for a Mac) internal drive for [choke] "$999" and thought I was getting the deal of a lifetime! How would I ever fill up 1 GB of data?!?! (circa 1992)

My first tech job (1987) was help desk for a software company. As junior guy, I got the COMPAQ "12 Mhz!" boat anchor with 2 x 360k floppy drives. After three months, I got bumped up to a 10MB hard drive, but it would not spin up on its own, so the cover was left off and you had to manually spin-start it each morning.

Finally, an old anecdote: IT (before it was 'IT') support guy is changing out a disk-pack:

Female student watching asks, "Wow, that looks heavy. How much does it weigh?"

IT Guy: "Depends on how much data is on it."

Female student: Nods in approval and complete belief.
