Great video from Jay. I might trade my 85 911 straight up for one of these. ;) |
I took some passenger laps in one at PECLA a few weeks back while passing thru (the driving part was booked solid unfortunately, some other time). OMG this car is amazing. The noise is fantastic, but the front end grip and turn in is ri-di-cu-lous. Whatever tires they came with, I want some. It felt faster than the last time I was there in a GT3 - it's likely slower than the 992 GT3 but it's mighty impressive. If there was no dealer markup on them, I'd consider liquidating my 401K - just for the sound. Maybe not a daily but what a weapon !

I had my kid have a few laps too... Good times

its about as fast as a non rs gt3 in a lot of the comparisons Ive seen, I think track/driver dependent. Has a little more top end on higher speed tracks since it has less frontal area and smaller wing, but doest quite have the front end grip of gt3 now that they are double wishbones.
718 is a great gar in general, my comparatively pedestrian 718 GTS really blends sports car performance with usable actual nice car to a degree I previously didn't think was possible. |
I was on the Ozark International raceway a few months ago in my totally analog 1985 911 having fun at my best pace. There were 10 cars on track, and it is a 4 mile long track. A GT4RS was in my run group. I would start in the rear to avoid slowing down the faster cars. The GT4RS had little problem passing me as I waved hit to pass on the left. He looked so planted, and it sure sounded great and he blasted past me. The GT2RS that was in my run group was even sweeter. I did stay ahead of and even left a guy in his 993 that started behind me.

They are cool for sure.
Not as analog as my 3RS, but not surprising since it is a much newer car. I have seen a few folks say it is too good, and takes some of the excitement away. Cool none the less. |
Thanks for that video.
There's no way I can justify a new Cayman (other than "I'm getting older and not going to live forever, so...."). I've often thought about replacing my '75 911 with a gently used Cayman S for a lot of the reasons they talk about - I'd just lose about 1000 "cool points"... |
I got me a Cayman S for two reasons.
Its a poor man's 911 Carrera S and its a real sweet sports car for the $$$ Sport Plus mode on occasion, lots of fun. |
When I looked last week, there were 61 GT4RS' for sale on cars.com. Sure seems like a bubble ready to pop. Unfortunately even at MSRP it's too rich for me. I'll just keep being perfectly OK driving my Cayman S at the track instead :)
