Are people working this week?
Or does it feel like a lazy Friday all week? I had to put in a 14 hour day yesterday. Was just talking with a friend in Corporate America and they are screwing around all week and have lots of different office parties.
What's your work week like before Santa comes? |
Preparing decorations and readying things for Christmas dinner has to be the hardest week of my year followed by cleaning up the dinner mess and packing everything for another 11 months in early January.
Ridiculous. But family you know? What's this office work you speak of? |
From now till the new year has to be the most unproductive week in corporate America. Not much gets done, I guess unless you are in IT...then you might have some deployments while things are slow.
When I was still working and had accumulated significant vacation time I'd be out of the office from the second week of December through the New Year. It was sweet.
Agree... next two weeks are vacationing in place.
Working all week. Surprisingly busy . It looked like I would be dead, but the phone keeps a ringin'
Merry X mas and Happy Hoidays Shaun |
Yup. Trying to get a design done for prototyping in early January.
Yes, all week, 13-14hr days and next week too except a day off on Christmas day
I haven't worked for the last 25 years. No point in starting this week.
Truth be told, a bit of lawn mowing, showing a prospective tenant around, walking the dogs, dog vet visits - and bills, minor roof leak to fix, vehicle maintenance... |

Yes I have completely forgotten about the wings I'm sorry to say, I will get on those right after Christmas. I have looked into shipping my Ducati to London, not bad at $750, so maybe I'll be back next year. |
Shaun, I've been working on the railroad all the live long day....well, not really. I did mod the layout as my wife wanted a clear path from the front door for our guests this coming weekend.
Could be worse. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1703018047.JPG Maybe I should have moved the trains out from behind the coffee table...DOH! |
Looks great Scott! Please post a video of them running around when you can.
NOW you're making me work!
Only for everyone else's enjoyment! :D I'm very thoughtful like that.
Video private. I think you need to uncheck a box on YT so we can see it.
Try it now, I set it to unlisted.
Set as Public instant premiere now.
Nope.
Sorry, I didn't see the save button for the changes I made. It should work now....I hope.....maybe.

I'm in IT. I didn't take enough time off during the year, so "use it or lose it", I'm off until the 2nd. There's a lot of others that do the same thing. Mandatory change freeze from the Friday before Christmas until the day after New Year's Day. I saw in our change management queue that someone wants to roll out something big this Friday afternoon, right before our change freeze starts. It had better get denied. If things don't go well, I don't want to be called Saturday afternoon to fix someone else's screw up. Last year it was miserably cold the weekend before Christmas. Thursday night or Friday morning, someone in Facilities turned of the coolant pump for one of our data centers. "It's so cold, why would they need cooling?" By the time it was caught, the coolant had started to freeze in the pipe and the system couldn't just be restarted. Almost melted down a data center, it got to 120F in there. |
Yes. I’ve taken 1 vacation day in the last 3 years.
SO TOTALLY AWESOME!!!! Thank you!

Today started my two weeks paid off while the college is closed between semesters.
We are off Friday and Monday. I’m taking Thursday off, to go to Atlanta, to see my mom on Friday for her 95th birthday. Then back to Chucktown for the weekend.
I’m working every day. A bit of a different focus at year end, there’s year end stuff to be done plus getting ready for January, but it’s still a day’s work.
I'm approaching 20 years retired, but that doesn't mean I don't work. I just don't have a shedule. Rain is coming tomorrow, so that makes it a perfect condition to burn the six piles of branches, brush, and cuttings I have piled up. Can't wait to get that done.
Yes. Today and tomorrow are my last work days of the year. This Friday is a standard off-Friday, so short work week anyway.
We week of Jan 1 is also an off-Friday week, so three days of quiet then. Many folks are taking those three days off to convert into two weeks of vacation. |
Seems like things are going at 1/2 speed here. I went 2 hours without getting an email on Monday. I thought something was wrong so I sent myself one to make sure all was working. A lot of places to park in the garage. I work at a hospital and we try to discharge as many as we can for the holidays and surgeries are down because the Doc's are all skiing in Vail. ;)

4 years ago I took a step toward retirement and started a part time job at a small private school.
25 hours per week most of the time. Summers are very "flexible". I'm off now until after the new year. I will stop at the building periodically to make sure everything is in order. I'm officially the business manager - accounting, tuition management, payroll, etc. Unofficially I'm the guy who they call when a kid pukes in the hall, a toilet is clogged, the heat is on the fritz, etc. I love it and the flexibility. I've got another 4+ years until I fully retire. Just back from a long weekend visiting kids/grandkids who live on the other side of the state for early christmas and birthday celebrations. My middle grandkid turned 4 on Sunday. He's the one farting on Dad's head. Merry Christmas! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1703081944.jpg |
Tried to take Thursday and Friday off this week, but a couple recent injuries has me backtracking on Thursday vacation and operating instead.
Company I work for got bought out by a large corporation in August. New rules regarding vacation ensued. Typically we were allowed to carry over up to 5 unused vacation days and even more if approved by management. New rules are doing away with the carryover so many engineers who were too busy to use all their days this year are now all taking lots of time off.
I am taking off this Friday Dec 22nd and returning Jan 3rd... Can't wait until 4:30 pm rolls around tomorrow afternoon. ;) |
Yes
I am not averse to going to the office on a weekend or holiday, particularly if it saves someone a trip to the emergency room |

My team is pretty "go go go" all year long. The holidays are much quieter as most of the people we interact with are not really working, either. So, this time of year, I tell my folks to take gratuitous use of their leave and be with family. I can hold down the fort.
big fan of the use it or lose it policy we have. forces people to take vacation, and thats good for them, its good for the company, its good for everyone.
i tend to try to burn my vacation in the summer, cause there is nothing fun to do in December. no ice yet, no pavement racing, and christmas is a middling holiday at best. so i try to burn it up early. |
Our policy allows it to roll over until you get 320 hours in the bank. Then we can cash it in for 80% of your rate. So you build it up and cash in it. Build it up and cash again. Not a bad deal.
Don't they pay you while on vacation at 100% of your rate though?
