Am I as crazy as I feel?
I know nothing about fishing, diving, water skiing, and such. I know absolutely nothing about boating whatsoever.
I've never owned a boat, and don't have a boat.
I'm not sure I can afford a boat...

That's why I'm on the wait list for a slip in my neighborhood.

I have family that lives in NC on the inter coastal and they have docks, lifts, etc. If I lived there I would have a boat and just learn. I think its a great idea, keep your name on it I say.

Do you have a friend with boat. That's different to friend with benefits.

You might want to price a boatlift for that slip before you even think about buying a boat. I think the price will sway you away from even thinking about a boat.

Avid boater here! BUT of the fresh water variety.....But the thought of having a slip available in beautiful FLOridah would be right up my alley....DO IT, DO IT my inner selfish self screams!

Still, I would pay heed to the valuable advice given here...cuz they yain't cheap to own....trybeforeyoubuy!

If I had to use a public boat ramp, versus walking the 90 feet to my dock and lowering my boat into the water, I wouldn't own a boat. Same goes for the Waverunners.

It's where the Braden and Manatee Rivers converge. The gulf is maybe 10 miles. Most importantly, being on the list cost me nothing.

1. Ask around... there might be a boating club in the area. Join up, go to some meetings, and learn stuff.
2. Take your name off the wait list and use the money you'll save (by not buying a boat) to travel.

Consider getting a Cabin Cruiser with a big sliding door. Its just like having a Condo in a nice place with a good view. I know multiple folks who have Boats in Marina's and they only get moved to remove barnacles and growth. Sitting on the back deck watching the world goes by has its own merit.
