How does one know....

How does one know if they have a tendency to develop holes mainly in their right sock or if one simply ends up putting the sock with the hole in it on the right foot?

I've never had that problem, but you could mark the bottom of one sock in each pair, then always put it on the same foot thereafter and see what happens.

My socks are marked TG and IF.

Its a little known fact that modern hosiery, including socks, resulted from william Lee's invention of the knitting machine in 1589. In the next decade, Europeans got into mass-produced hosiery. From there, the length of “hose” shorten along with the whims of fashion.

Throw out the one with the hole, problem solved.

I think it’s just one of the mysteries of sock nature that we’ll never understand, Scott. Like how do they escape the clothes dryer without a trace, and where do they go?

LWJ 12-20-2023 06:22 AM

^^^the static from the dryer tears a hole in the barrier to the 4th dimension. There is a really large pile of odd socks just sitting there now.

Or, that is where lint comes from.

One of the two.

I only buy black socks so worst scenario is I only ever have one lonely sock.

LOL! I also buy 'em in batches. Keep the single until another one gets a hole...

Went to Costco this morning.

Took the opportunity to resupply.

All good

Random chance. Since one foot will wear out a sock differently and there is no guaranteed 50% rule. You know the odds are always with the house, or in your case the drawer.

Related sock question:

Do you still hang your socks on those little hangers they come on from the store or is it just me doing this?

Icebreaker solves both problems. The socks are handed, and the company will replace them for free for life. And they come in colors other than just black. And I'm not affiliated, just a fan.

I was interested - but not per their web site:

https://www.icebreaker.com/en-us/service-warranty.html

icebreaker warranty request
We will replace your icebreaker garment within 1 year of purchase if it has been damaged by faulty fabric, stitching or manufacturing.
Please return your garment as soon as possible so we can assess its condition and send you a replacement. Damage that occurs after a year is usually caused by wear and tear.

But,

That's too bad about icebreaker, but not surprising. I haven't needed to use the warranty in a while (I may never have to, I'm pretty sure I have a lifetime supply of socks....)

As per a reddit post:

masraum 12-23-2023 06:08 AM
