First World Problem Rant

Gas prices have been lower lately. 87 octane is 2.49 9/10 here.
Yesterday I took the Carrera out for a drive and decided to fill the tank. I use 93 octane no ethanol and I expected to save some money. Wrong! Instead of me paying about a dollar more than 87, it was $2.10 more. Porsche tax strikes again. They know they got you and you will pay whatever they decide. Grrrrrrr!

OK, I am blessed to enjoy the car and have the funds to fill it up. Rant over. SmileWavy

I don’t think that’s a p-car tax…
That’s the EtOH tax

Be glad you can get 93 Octane...highest in Oregon is 91...and close to $4 per gallon for 87 in this high gas tax state.

Assuming your engine is stock and in good tune:
Why buy 93 octane?
The car does not need it,
won't run better on it,
and buying it will only cost you more.

I have to put 91-93 octane in our VW eurovan powered RV. Gets costly when going cross-country. Less HP if you use 87 octane, and you need all the ponies you can get with the RV.

ramonesfreak 12-20-2023 02:28 PM

only way to get the ethanol free here is to get the high octane so that’s all i’ve ever put in the 83 for almost 20 years. i’ve never put ethanol in the car. with that big tank, it is costly but last me a while

my DD takes minimum 91 and that’s what i use

but, couldn’t tell you what gas costs. i never look. what’s the point since i’m going nowhere without it anyway

You can't buy gas in California without booze in it that is legal to run on the street

stevej37 12-20-2023 02:44 PM

My 98 Prelude has stickers on the cap and the dash....Prem fuel only.
The 22 Civic has stickers saying Prem fuel recommended.

I use prem all the time.

really? so if you have a boat you gotta the gas from the gas dock of the marina?

zakthor 12-20-2023 02:49 PM

My 92 ethanol-free is $5.50/g...

930 likes it, 930 gets it.

Por_sha911 12-20-2023 07:49 PM

Why 93 Octane?
The car has been chipped and it is usually the only way to avoid ethanol.

I don't mind paying for the good stuff but it is aggravating that the price hasn't dropped like it has for 87 octane with piss in it.

OK, with a chip that makes sense.
California is a strange place.

Here in Oklahoma I can buy any level of gasoline with no liquor in it, but the gasohol is 40 cents per gallon cheaper with all the federal subsidies to the corn farmers and con squeezing makers. Billions is subsidies, to grow food for fuel.

stomachmonkey 12-21-2023 05:43 AM

My personal DD's both require 91 or better but you can only get 87, 89 or 93 around here.

93 is $3.15 today.

You whiners complaining about costs filling a Pcar...............try a 35 gallon pick up truck!

bob deluke 12-21-2023 08:22 AM

$4.02/gallon for 93 Octane in my neck of the woods. Used it in the Porsches, and my Audi TT. Put 89 octane in wife’s Volvo XC70. Was $3.60 a gallon.

masraum 12-21-2023 08:33 AM

Here in Houston, we get 93octane +10% ethanol which is usually 75¢-$1 more than 87octane. I can get 91 octane with no ethanol, and that's usually about $1 more than the 93 octane (and lower octane, so what's the point).
Our prices are up and down, but nothing crazy.

Shaun @ Tru6 12-21-2023 08:36 AM

What I'm reading here seems to be: man, capitalism sucks, it's not fair.

and probably: boy, gas prices should be lower, oil companies don't need to make so much money. Screw those shareholders, I want cheap gas.

93 for the Cayenne and 84 is $4.29 a gallon, exactly $1 more than pre-pandemic The PSM button still gets turned off plenty in the GTS.

You could use half and half 89 and 93 to get to 91. Using lower octane actually makes more power all other things being equal.
