Budget/Alernative Garage Lights

A while back I purchased a pallet of nine salvage big screen tvs. I fixed three of them and sold them recovering my cost for all nine. I saved a 65"TCL for myself. The remaining tvs had cracked screens and not worth repairing so I removed the LED/LCD panels and mounted them in the garage as lights.
I gotta say it works rather well.

Not a single one weighs more than 10lbs.

That's a great way of repurposing those!
I'll have to pass that along to my brother. I think he has a junk TV he could use that way.

Take the diffuser skins off and they'll be much brighter! I swapped out some bad LED strips behind the panel of my old 43 inch TV, they're literally just standard LED chip strips behind a high quality diffuser panel.

It's the diffuser sheets that make the difference in my opinion. Leaving them on gives a much larger field of light with much less shadowing. It's the equivalent to the light panels professional photographers use but at a fraction of the cost. I've been painting parts of the 356 using them as a light source. I get a much larger field of view of the light reflecting off of the surfaces as I'm applying the paint. It makes a noticeable difference.

Kevin - Could you post a pic of one of the panels with the lights off so we could see how it looks?

Wow great idea. Nice light!

What with price of tvs today, could buy them new and it'd still be cheaper than a decent light panel.

This one is 57"X33"X1.5"
And for those who have not lifted a TV since grampa got his first color console tv back in 1954 this one weighs in at 8lbs.

The wall panels are great-it really is a pro body shop thing, and makes a big difference.
