For the Joe Walsh/James Gang fans.

An interesting article about the early years of Joe Walsh and his band James Gang from Cleveland, Ohio.
Including early videos that I hadn't seen until now.

A good read and watch. :)

Joe didn't appear too happy on the Howard Stern video.
I think it was before he straightened his life out....he looked older/tired than he does now.

For me Joe was a great addition to the Eagles. He, by himself, just doesn't have the depth of voice or range to be anything great. That's only an opinion. He does play a mean guitar. Virtuoso.

stevej37 12-29-2023 12:24 PM

^^^ I agree...his voice is distinctive, but that's about it.
His guitar work and song writing are both terrific.

Joe Walsh seems like he's just having a great time. I like his voice on his older stuff as a solo artist and James Gang but not so much anymore. His drugged out smooth-brain mushmouth style got a lot more exaggerated and it gets on my nerves now. ( I know, he's sober. has been for years. Yay.)
I just watched a (5 or 6 year old) video of RMW with Vince Gill and it was hard to listen to.

I'll always remember him like this; (I'm also pretty sure he was sober before he wrote this, but you'd never know it).

The first time I saw him in concert was 1971 at Central MI Uni........the last time was at Columbus, Ohio for an outdoor free concert in honor of the Armed Forces about 10 years ago on July 4
He played with Jeff Lynne and we stood along the stage for most of the show....it was great.

Joe and his bil Ringo two years ago.
Joe was 74 at the time.

"Well if I knew I'd have to play this song the rest of my life I probably would have wrote something else"

It starts with this tasty blues intro:

Then you get this:

Edit I posted this version of Funk 49 because I liked it better than the one he did at Crossroads. It used to be on utube but I don't see it anymore.

That lineup is noteworthy. Benmont Tench, Russ Kunkel, Leland Sklar and Waddy Wachtel - in addition to joe and Ringo.

stevej37 12-29-2023 04:46 PM

I still have my Analog Man t-shirt.

His guitar work on that is priceless.

Ahh..Athens...that's where the free concert was in 2012.
It was a high school football stadium with tables set on the field for sponsors.

I forgot the name of the city....thought it was Columbus.

Por_sha911 12-29-2023 06:13 PM

A true Joe Walsh fan knows the phrase "Uh oh, here comes a flock of 'wa wa's' " at the end of a popular long play album version of a song.
Anyone know the answer? Post the video of the song.

stevej37 12-29-2023 06:23 PM

I'm a true JW fan...seen him at least a half dozen times in concert...from 1971 to 2012
Don't know the answer...let us know.

The first time I saw him was when James Gang released 'Rides Again'
It was on a flat floor at CMU in Mt. Pleasant, MI
