Tool inflation

I ordered a set of 1/2" drive 6 point metric sockets from Tekton exactly one week ago..since all my metric 1/2" sockets that were made in USA Craftsman were 12 point.

They arrived today...very jewel like. Quality wise, I'd say they very much rival the tool truck brands. But, since they're made in Taiwan, who knows how long they'll be around?

The rails they come with are pretty handy as well.

Anway, anybody needing sockets or doing some set building might want to consider the brand. (edit: said in an earlier thread I'd leave a review when they arrive, so here it is.)

My dream tool box was about $1200 about 2-3 years ago. Now almost $1700. It's jumped about 300 in the last 6 months alone.
I'll need to sell the 911 to buy the toolbox!!!!!

LOL! Well, I do have it in USA Craftsman as well, but that means 12 point. Yeah, it did amaze me that the 10 was actually there when the set arrived. Maybe because these rails lock in the sockets with a twist. Kind of nifty...I could pick up the tray with both rails, turn it upside down & shake and the sockets stay put.

That too...I wouldn't advise anyone to go into debt to buy tools, but if you can afford it, buy now...I have the feeling it's only going to get worse. I'm glad I bought the majority of mine a long time ago. Mostly USA Craftsman which some tool snobs sneer at, but they've worked pretty damned well for me over the years.

Another thought is to cruise garage and estate sales. You never know what will pop up. I have a friend who built a pretty impressive tool collection that way.

I bought mine once in a lifetime toolbox two or three years ago. It was a Matco 72” rollaway that a Porsche tech used for a couple years. Looked brand new. It’s amazing working out of the box that’s 6 feet wide and not like my old box that was 6 feet tall.

I want to say it was 5K+ new and I paid 2.5K.

We have been buying tools like it for our construction needs for the past 10 or 15 years. Made in Taiwan. Surprise, surprise, they are damn good tools. America fell asleep again living on the glory of Snap-on and such while countries are gaining traction on building better products daily compared to their yesteryear. I have sets of Tekon as well as open wrenches from Autozone. They work fine and I don't use it too often. It will out last me if they don't get lost first.

My gripe is the 14 mm Snap-on socket. It slips on bolts Its a tag big and the truck just laugh me out of there when I present them the problem. Azz hold. I am never buying snap-on again. I will use a pipe wrench before I give them my money

20 years ago I searched out made in USA tools, now that is not really a thing at consumer price point anyways.

Last few years always looked for made in taiwan tools, I assume they are all made in the same factory or 2, always decent and relatively affordable.

Bought alot of williams branded made in taiwan tools in the last few years. Not snap on quality but better than what I generally get at hazard fraught or big box. With amazon next day delivery it is more convenient than even local purchases.
