Air hose with reel , is there a good one?

Shop hose and reel all assembled.
Can anyone recommend a good unit with 75 feet of hose?
One that will wind up with 175 lb pressure in it?

No harbor freight crap, please.
I have tried a few, not happy with amazon selection or HF, and all the cheap crap.
For sure i dont need an end flying off and a hose end beating a car to death.
I am looking / hoping for an American-made unit.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanx!

I have a DeWalt. I like it, but it only holds 50 feet of heavy 3/8 hose

I think the Coxreel stuff Herr-oberst posted is a big step up from Harbor Freight.

That said, I have had a harbor freight reel for close to twenty years and have spent a boat load of time in the garage only changing the hoses.

I bought a used Reelcraft (three years ago) thinking HF surely sucked the big one only to find the Reelcraft needed an unservicable fancy swivel fitting. $200 for that fitting. Mind you this was a large reel from a fire station. Not really our application.

The used Reelcraft went into the dumpster and the HF went back up on the wall.

HF says this Reelcraft is a good comparison to their $109 top of the line unit. Reel craft is more than HF says from quick checks. Similar to the Coxreel.

Do you actually run 175psi in your air line? I think most air tools are intended to be around 100psi max.

I use a HF reel and a better (100’) line on it. It was good for 15 years and was way cheaper than anything else I found.

I had to replace the banjo fitting and the 3’ connecting piece last year, but I can live with that lifespan. The line is still fine. I mostly run air tools off it.

LOL you could get a 3/8" x 100' reel from snap-on for $400 ;)

personally I use a $50 (when I bought it)
3/8" x 50' reel from HF without any problems in 10 years.
I do not keep it pressured up all the time though,
I only turn on the compressor when I need it.

I bought a Reelcraft wall-mount about three years ago, and it has been bulletproof. Spendy for sure, but buy once, cry once. I like the black 'donut' that you can park anywhere on the line and have exactly the length of slack you want. I mounted it high on the garage wall, and it stays up and out of the way. The only quirk is there is a bit of a trick to get the reel to lock in position, but after a bit of practice, I can lock it with no drama.

Interested in response. I have seen a guy run that normally. Man, bolts and nuts came off.

He will have a regulator at least.

Aside from filling tires with air, why do you even need an airline anymore?

herr_oberst 01-04-2024 06:30 AM

Like the vast majority here, my HF with 50' of hose has served me well for decades (and I also recently replaces the 3' jumper hose.)

I mostly use my compressor to fill tires and for the blow gun but I also have a full compliment of nail guns, and my rattle gun is fired by air. I could and should get rid of the big tank and just get a little pancake or hotdog compressor to free up some space in the shop.

In our shop, we have 10 hose reels mounted on hoists. All from Newline . A local company, but they do not manufacture them.

Had to replace one burst hose and one reel, over 14 years...... This is in a shop where every hose reel gets used every day....

We run our shop pressure at 135lbs. Anything above that messes with your tools....

Cheers

I think the 75' thing will be a problem. I have Milton 3/8 x 50 and they are very nice
Like Jeff used all day 5 days a week for years. Had cheap **** before not worth the aggravation

Prolly not quite? , the compressor kicks off at 175lbs. Air runs through a 50-foot reel.
I do have a separate outlet and hose for the 3/4 gun which runs 1/2 hose straight through, no reel.

The compressor is two-stage - Porter Cable. Big cylinder and a smaller cylinder
The tools have not ever complained about it, in fact, I have not even ever thought about it .
I use them quite regularly and owned this compressor for 17 years .
Same tools for over 30 years.
I do usually dribble a bit of oil dwn them B4 I pick them up every couple days .
I use the two 1/2 guns a lot, the 3/4 drive a bit, and the one inch.....hardly ever anymore.

Really?
My fleet does not go to the shop.
The tire changer and car lift are air operated.
I change out tires, and balance them.
Do All brakes, ball joints and oil leaks.
All valve jobs (which are getting fewer anymore)
Have a separate air hose, and regulator / dryer system for paint guns.
I hire out the AC stuff. (air conditioning).

At 67 I need a fire under my butt to get an honest three hours work in. That takes eight.
