amazing grace - anyone else tear up when hearing it

I am not normally a crier, but hearing Amazing Grace played invariably gets me to tear up because it means another American soldier who died in battle is being laid to rest. Visited Princeton campus a couple of years ago with my kid for a college tour and heard Amazing Grace being played and I teared up badly. My family couldn't comprehend why and I was too choked up to explain why.

Anyone else?

Growing up in Chicago, it meant another beat cop died on the job. Parade and bagpipes is always a sad sight for me.

Yes.

My sister has a beautiful voice. As we laid our father to rest at his grave in the center of wide open Michigan farmland she began the song very quietly and, of course, shakily considering the circumstance of solemnity and sorrow. Only a few seconds into the song other mourners joined in. It became a beautiful chorus of song. As you can well imagine, it prompted a release of emotion, togetherness and, quite frankly, unabashed love. There were well over 100 mourners at my father's funeral having come from miles around.

Then off in the distance came the opening bars of Taps. At first, I thought I was imagining things. The funeral director (dad always called them undertakers) was a trumpet player who, knowing Dad was a Navy Vet, sneaked off to a hill in the near distance, unpacked his horn, and gifted to us the most beautiful rendition I think I shall ever experience.

So yes. Amazing Grace always brings me to tears. As does Taps.

Yes, pretty much every time I hear it and contemplate on the words.
