Eyebolt question
 

I plan to hang my trolling motor (60lbs) under one of the 2x6 joists on my dock.
My plan is to hang it off 2 short slings attached to eyebolts, then I can just take it down.
It would be easiest if I could hang it off 2 separate 1/2"x3.5" eye screws, screwed vertically into the underside of the joist. Easy peasy- except I don't really like to hang dead weight off a screw.
My other option is drill through the joist and use a horizontal eyebolt- except then the weight is at 90degrees to the eyebolt shaft, which is the weakest part of the bolt.
It is only 60lbs- about 30lbs per bolt. I am probably over thinking this- but thought I should ask some smarter people before I do something even dumber than my usual.
Thoughts of how I should proceed?

It’s 30lbs per. Just hang the thing. Life’s too short…

There it is.......

Run a sling OVER the joists, and make an inverted basket (Capital letter U)
Then any shackle/hook/carabiner you can find to connect to the sling loops.


Or, drill vertically though the joist and run a long eyebolt up and use a fender washer and nut on top of the joist.

Or, recognize that it's 30 pounds each and you'll be fine with almost anything, up to and including zipties or lots of duct tape holding the eyebolt in place.

I don't have access to the top of the joist- it is against upper flooring.
Although overkill for this purpose- I was unaware the "gorilla" hardware was available.
My google skills are weak- what is that called?
I think I am just going to screw a couple of eye screws in and call it a day.

Vertically into wood will eventually pull out with rot. Same with any kind of thread.

Horizontal and metal is the only way to go.
One piece would be even better but that doesn't sound possible.

You could... drill two holes near the top of joist and through the joist. Then put two ropes through the holes with loops and carabiners. This keeps the tension side of the joist from being compromised.

I am always amazed at the ways I can complicate everything.
I am going to use the ceiling anchors-- I think this will be a reasonable compromise.
