Thanks! Indeed a racing victory for Tony Dean & the 908... Porsche later effectively killed the Can-Am series with the domination of Penske & the 917...Glory days indeed.

Well, that has been debated but I don't remember the different points of view. I can say that McLaren's 19 victories in a row was the begin of the beguine.

I agree that total dominance takes away from any series.

Thanks for the look back in time. First went to Road Atlanta in 77 or 78 as a teen for a Camel GT weekend. We camped out near turn 5 and walked the track after dark to the aroma of old-style weed, and enjoyed a few underage beverages. The future seemed bright!

Raced SCCA & ProFF2000 late 80's, early 90's. It's a real shame the dip, turn 12, and turn 1 (to a lesser extent) had to be emasculated. Hard to replace that thrill.

One of the guys on the Mustang Bullitt board described being at Mosport. Described waiting after the start for the cars to come around again. When the 917 driven by Donahue came into sight, it was so far ahead, he at first thought there must have been a crash & pileup somewhere else on the track. The 917 was that far ahead...
