I use Testors and Vallejo. Have some old Testors Model Master but they discontinued that line a while back. Too bad as they were very good for airbrushing. I have an external mix Testors airbrush, an automotive gun style single action gravity feed (clearance at Menards for $12) and a Badger Renegade Krome dual action. I use a 6 gal pancake Bostitch that I set to 30psi with the Badger, 22psi for the single action gravity feed. Haven't used the external mix yet on the compressor to know where, but probably 25 to 28 psi on that. I don't have large areas to cover so I don't really use it any more.
Fine lines are very difficult to me at 55 compared to when I was 16 starting out in all this as you can see by the pink brush and lousy line on the tire. My nephew swears by The Army Painter paints and I have them on the list to try. You can get turnstiles at Hobby Lobby like these to clamp and rotate the models. Very nice to work with. The Vallejo cover nice and leave the detail intact, but they are easily scratched compared to the regular Testors enamel. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1704763410.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1704763410.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1704763410.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1704763410.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1704763410.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1704763410.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1704763410.jpg |

They are loud, but with a 6gal tank the compressor doesn't run often. Does make me jump each and every time it kick on though!

Vallejo also has decent pearls. Best over gloss black they say, but the inside of the spoon was flat black.

We sure are good at spending money!

Another thing that really helped me and my old man eyes was a $20 set of soldering glasses from Amazon. You can detail better when you can see

I printed a mixer that goes on the cordless drill. There is another that clamps the small Testors square bottles in the drill to mix right in the bottle that I have to print too. I am not sure about the one that attaches to a reciprocal saw.

I guess I've been doing it wrong all these years by just shaking up the little Testors bottles by hand!!! [emoji1]

Have a 3d printer or know someone with one? The mixers save a lot of shaking.

I use Tamiya acrylics and Testors enamels. Was gifted an airbrush from a Pelican regular. Learning to use it Cant believe I went 40 years without one.

I found an Avanti hobby compressor at Harbor Freight for $99 which came with a gravity feed airbrush. Money back guarantee or full replacement for two years. Will report back in time.

I'm really impressed by the astonishing detail and craftsmanship ya'll are putting into these models. Wow, and well done gentlemen.

I'm never disappointed in the forums ability to direct me towards tools I don't own yet. Even though every time I buy a tool I say 'I think I have everything now', and two of most things...
