Today's Attic Find

Noticed some faint buzzing sounds the last few days in the upstairs. Couldn't find anything until I decided to check the attic.
They are still very active even though the temp is in the low 40's. I'll get up on the roof later today to see if I can find where they are entering.

Wow…that’s a big nest. How do you plan to remove it?

^^^ After I find and plug the crack where they are entering...I will foam it down and wait for colder weather. Then remove it.
If you look closely...you can see one or three just came out of the nest on the bottom.

Why seal their ingress/egress when they may have other options?

Do it all at once or call a pro.

Oh yeah, do it when it's -5F.

^^^ It's too cold for them to go very far right now.
I'll wait until it's around freezing and peel the nest down. I've done it before, it's easy with a scraper and a big garbage bag.

My daughter and her husband bought a new piece of junk house in Seattle several months ago for more than my house in E WA is worth. That's another story.

When demolishing the kitchen, he found a huge nest in the wall.

They called Jerry the Bee Guy, who's name is Marvin. He bought the business when Jerry retired.

A total pro and interesting guy. Charged them all of $300 for a few hours worth of work.

I've never seen that sort of nest in person. All that I've ever seen was paper wasps. I've never seen a hornet or yellow jacket nest.

Here's a pic of one of the dead ones. I vacuumed up a bunch of them and some were at least an inch long.

Wow, crazy coincidence. I bought a POS house Seattle, and had to call the Bee Guy as well. That was 15 years ago.

I had been finding them in an adjacent un-used bedroom for a few weeks. It was only when I was up there when it was real quiet that I heard the buzzing. It sounded like it was outside, but the walls muffled the sound.

If they are in a wall, they can be very hard to find

Not sure where you live or what sort of wasps you have. We get mud daubers in the house frequently. THey are solitary and like to crawl into small gaps and cracks to hide their nests (again, solitary). They are relatively benign. I use a washcloth or towel or glove to grab them and throw them outside.

I had a massive yellow jacket nest in the wall of my guest house. My wife could hear them but me being deaf I couldn’t. Finally heard the sound and when locating them I put my hand through the gypsum that they were using to build their nest. Never ran so fast in my life.

The window picture was taken from a ladder on the outside after I set off an insecticide bomb in the unit.
