Moon Walkers
You probably know of the 12 astronauts that walked on the moon, via Apollo missions 11-12, 14-17. As a kid living in Florida near the launch site in the late 60s, I was a bit of a space geek, so it was kinda a gut-punch for me to learn today only four of them are still with us.

Playboy playmates went to the moon Finally, I absolutely love this clip of Apollo astronaut Buzz Aldrin punching a moon-landing denier... https://repo.library.stonybrook.edu/xmlui/handle/11401/8438 |
Much like the WW2 veterans, they are approaching the end of life due to age. It is sad to see our heroes die off.

Thanks for posting. I was born in '67 but was a huge follower of the space program through the '70s and '80s and can just barely remember watching some of the live televised broadcasts (late Apollo and Skylab) when they would air them at school.
While he didn't walk on the moon Frank Borman (Gemini VII and Apollo VIII) passed away a couple months ago. |
Always thought the Gemini spacecraft was the most interesting with the cockpit-like seating arrangement. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1705329642.jpg

One of the highlights of my life was meeting Colonel Aldrin. I drove him to the airport two times and also went to his house in Emerald Bay CA (in Orange County) to fix his computer. He had a solid gold diorama of the Apollo 11 landing site among other amazing aviation items.
It was a great experience, he autographed my flight helmet, which I haven’t used since. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1705332372.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1705332409.jpg |
That signed helmet is fantastic. I've never thought about what it would take to erect a shrine in my basement, but if I had that...
