Any body know KE jetronic well ?
I know regular cis ( ala 911 ) really well . I know just enough to be dangerous on the rest of the jetronic stuff . I can usually sort it out eventually .
I towed in a project 1990 500sl that broke down 2-3 years ago . Another shop tried to get it running. It looks like it has new pumps , filter, and accumulator . I verified good compression on both banks, and good spark to all 8. It cranks fine . The fuel distributor , will not spray fuel . The cold start does inject fuel , but that will only net me an intake backfire. I have good system pressure in the lower chamber, but the operating pressure , which is supposed to be 5.8 bar, is more like 3.6 bar. I can feel fuel pressure up against the sensor plate when I have the pump jumpered, and I push on it, but it will not inject fuel when I depress the air flow plate . No manual codes . I understand the ehu is adjustable,. but I am guessing it is not going to be able to change the pressures by 2 + bar, or am I mistaken? I hate twisting screws blindly ( I would keep track of course ) Im thinking the diagphram in the fuel head is bad, or it is filled with gunk . When I lift the plate I can get a trickle out of the injector lines but no real flow , or pressure . The car has been sitting for 3 plus years . I have clean fuel in the tank and getting clean fuel at the regulator, and fuel head . I figured Dennis or Dan, or John has probably played with these more than I have . I messed with it for a few hours on Monday , hoping to get back on it later this week, but everything else in the county keeps breaking down !

I've never owned one but have helped friends in the distant past. My 911 is a CIS car and I know that system well.
Here's a link to a manual explaining all the parts (sadly no troubleshooting guide): http://www.berlinasportivo.com/Technical/lancia/Thema832/Bosch-KE-Jetronic-OCR.pdf My understanding of the KE-Jetronic is that it's essentially the same principle as the K-Jetronic with a couple of changes: - No WUR - The fuel pressure regulator is essentially fixed with some modulation from manifold pressure. - The pressure regulator in the fuel distributor is now the adjustable bit and is what the ECU modulates to achieve the right mixture. I think this means that pressure tests are a little backwards from the regular CIS cars (K-Jetronic). What pressure did you measure in the lower chamber? And what did you measure for primary pressure? The fuel distributor is still subject to all the same issues with old fuel. My initial thought is to make sure the tank has just a couple of fresh gallons of ethanol-free gas and a can of SeaFoam, circulate the fuel through the system, let it sit a day, and repeat. This might free up the fuel distributor. Another thought may be to remove an injector, run the fuel pump, raise the plate, and make sure you have fuel coming out. Maybe you don't have enough lower chamber pressure to open the injectors. Last edited by fanaudical; 01-17-2024 at 07:06 PM.. Reason: missed that Fred has fresh fuel and filter... |

A couple years ago the local porsche shop guy told me to start with the tank with a car that has been sitting for years. Check and clean the tank and any filters in it then move on to the next thing in the fuel system.
