Exactly. I've known guys to hunt deer with a 30-30, but I have a strong preference for 30-06. At any distance, particularly longer ones of course.

At 100 yds (probably less for me), the pistol calibers and "wimpy" .30-30 will dispatch with the same capabilities as the much more powerful .30-06 .... and I don't enjoy shooting "kicking mules" either ;).

Potent at shorter ranges, out of a lightweight rifle, and no sore shoulder either... works for me....

I haven't hunted in 40 years .... no need for long range shots here... I can kill deer by throwing rocks now :D
