Piston oil squirter target question
For the experts here-
Where should the bullseye be for piston-cooling jet squirters? This is a two-cylinder Hippo Motorcycle engine. Not even close to stock. Nodular cylinders, forged pistons and blah blah blah For Evo engine. They have to go on the left side. They could be aimed more at the intake side near the center. Or toward the exhaust side near the center. Of all the engines I have had apart, my concentration has never preceded the installment alignment. Any thoughts? |
Ummm... At the piston shirts?

Nope

Watching this, I get the impression that Porsche aims them towards the center.

My understanding is that piston squirters are aimed at the center crown of the piston to help with cooling.

Well,, one can only do so much with a rod in the way.,and one side only.
I can not even imagine the dynamics with the piston @ RPM? Must be a pretty continuous splash. I guess the center of one side is about the best scenario. Real pistons nowadays have a hole in the bottom of the crown and an oil gally built in all around the inside bottom. The oil hits the target hole, circulates around, and back out. |
