Valentine's Day reservations
Wednesday the 14th, booked solid, entire night, for 12 restaurants so far. I knew I was getting a little late for reservations but definitely surprised.

IMO, that day is one of the worst days to dine out. It might be great for restaurants and servers but as a dining customer, go a few days earlier.
Menus, seating capacity and times are altered to maximize the most turnover for that day.

My former boss has a brother, Sam, who does flowers. He has no "store", but rather does custom orders. He has a regular clientele for whom he provides flowers, including Valentine's roses. One year, he was asked to do a wedding--on Valentine's. This was one of those epic weddings where the floral bill, itself, was 6-figures. No way he could say no to that gig. But there was no way for him to service his regular customers on Feb 14 and cover this wedding at the same time.
So he thought outside the box and provided Valentine's roses to his usual customers...a week before Valentine's. The women were even more thrilled--first gal to get roses at the office or home. The husbands/boyfriends were happy their women were happy. And the flowers were cheaper (for Sam) the week before Valentine's--though he didn't charge his customers any less. Plus, he got to cover that expensive wedding. Everybody was happy. Now he provides Valentine's roses the week before Valentine's to all his customers, because everyone was so happy. Think outside the box.

we play these rules, too.....we pick a date before or after and make it our own. It varies from year to year based on other commitments, but what's the harm in sending flowers the week before and. having dinner out a week later.

Or you could really quickly join one of those supper clubs still in Boston.

That's a nice story Noah. She's getting a dozen at work on the 14th. Love the NPR deal every year.
I am meeting her mom and brother for brunch on Lunar New Year this Saturday. I think I will make her dinner. And going out another time will be nice too. The Daily Catch in the North End has some of the best seafood in all of New England, they don't take reservations and important to know, they only take cash. Always a line but maybe after the 14th it will be easier to get in.

This why I end up being such a grump because everyone is in such a hurry to be IG relevant that things are do e out season.
Need new Christmas lights? Better get them in October because the stores are stripped bare by Thanksgiving. Really? WTF needs Christmas lights up for Want to set up a Super Bowl pool fundraiser? Sorry, everyone has blown their budget on pools that have been open since Wild Card weekend. Want to go out to dinner? Sorry, reservations are booked for weeks for the single most irrelevant “holiday” on the Calendar. |

We have all seen your cooking. That is the way to go on Valentine's Day. She is a lucky lady to get some of your cooking
