AMAZON. the best version. the river.

I don't know if I told this story.

I checked off a bucket list item. I am not dying soon, not that I am aware of, so I plan on checking this bucket list item off the list again.

the best way to describe it is Fishing meets Crossfit. it is brutal. hot, humid. more humid than I have ever experienced. 100 degrees with a wet atmosphere. gross. the guides primary job isn't to help us catch fish. his primary job, as far as I can tell, it to make me drink a bottle of water every 15 minutes. we would drink two cases a day. and barely pee. if and when I did pee, it felt like a victory. a victor-pee!!.

I made a YouTube video, and almost fainted on it. I had to lay down. the baits are heavy and they have a lot of drag in the water. you have to yank on it to make them work seductively. the yanking will get you sweating and huffing and puffing. I wore a HR monitor and when I was fishing it was like a cardio workout. we flew in on a tiny plane and landed in the jungle like we were picking up drugs. haha.

best time of my life.

Why is your face covered up? Sunburn? Tell us more about the adventure. That sounds like a heck of a lot of fun. Nice fish BTW. Did you get to eat it?

Nice! Congrats, Cliff! Where in the Amazon were you? Assuming your trip was recent, you were there in the "low water" time at the end of the "dry" season so the fish were more concentrated which is, I suspect the best time to go for fishing trips. I've heard about those fishing trips to the Amazon. I suspect they are amazing, especially if you're into fishing.

We need more info!

Heat and humidity can be deadly if you are not drinking a lot of water. At Roebling Road race track outside of Savannah, GA the heat index was 135. I know I drank a case of water and did manage to pee once. It will flush out your sweat glands for sure. And it is good too take some salt tablets as well.

I am glad you had fun. But much like my nephew that moved to Tabernash, CO to have lots of snow and ride his snowmobile, I will pass. Different versions of fun.

I would never normally do this. but I formatted my video to kinda explain the trip. the fish are mostly all topwater bites and they are VIOLENT (understatement). the hits look and feel like bowling balls dropped into the water from an overhead bridge. and my drag on my reels are full tight and the fish strip line.

I came home and caught a largemouth bass and it wasn't even exciting. haha.. I got skunked all of January, so I am jonesing for a green one again.

here is my video. ignore my stupid sounding voice.

I finally got a chance to watch your video. Very cool. Manaus is where we began our Amazon trip too. We only did a tiny bit of fishing and mostly caught piranha or another fish that looked just like them. Fishing wasn't the goal and would have been insane when the water was at it's high level. It looks like a good time. Most of our outings started at 6-7am or 6-7pm I assume to keep us out of the heat of the day, but even then yeah, lots of humidity. Being from the Gulf coast, we were used to heat and humidity. It wasn't quite as hot there as here, but the humidity was a step above what we usually have to deal with. And we were mostly taking photos or using binoculars. Your fishing looks like hard work!

Glad you enjoyed it! It looks like a good time.
