Long, but interesting video...Phoenix Arid-Zona

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjQuZfkU1jI&ab_channel=RealLifeLore

Water the main topic...but it involves chip industry, agriculture,more..

Good video.

As a former long time resident of Arizona seeing the growth in Phoenix is mind boggling. I wish I could have live there in the ‘60s and ‘70s when it was a quieter, smaller state.

I kinda like the Phoenix area. It's a pretty well done city with lots to do. Costs aren't astronomical and there's tons to do (like most big cities). There's problems with crime but it's not horrific. And if you can survive the summers, the rest of the year is perfect weather.

Really great video!

Definitely worth the watch.

My wife and I had short listed the Phoenix area for retirement...but recently we go back and forth based on the summers and water shortage issues.

Interestingly, I live in Houston. During Hurricane Harvey in Sept 2017, ONE TRILLION gallons of water fell on this city in only 4 days. I always said, what if we were to collect this water, build a trunkline and transport it to Arizona using pump station every 150-miles??? Its something I do now with hydraulic modelling and would love to be part of a project like this.

I’ve lived in Mesa for 30 years. That video was interesting, but I think it was AI speaking.

It kept repeating certain details, one of which was “Phoenix’s water use in 1980 was…”

Then it said that it had declined every year since then. That’s simply playing with data.

I can agree that the city of Phoenix can/maybe reduced water usage, but the metro area is ginormous and there’s no way water usage for the metro area has declined every year.

It’s looking for clicks, I know that bc at the end there was an ad.

Still an entertaining watch.

phoenix treats the sewer water to drinking water.... The statement might be correct. IDK

That simply cannot be true. Prove me wrong.

The metro area is not just Phoenix or Maricopa County, it’s also many other cities and Pinal County to the east.

The water at mi casa comes from the Salt River.
Btw, there’s a Central Arizona Project, or CAP Canal, about 500 yards from by place. That’s not for here, it feeds the Dirty T…., I mean, Tucson. 😉

No more flood irrigation anywhere and little agriculture. I will find the stat. Note the comment in this article about the percent of water use. 3% less than 60 years ago.

We are in Surprise AZ visiting my bio Mom. She lives in an older over 55 RV community called Happy Trails. The driver who picked us up from the airport commented on the growth and also the water use linked above. Agriculture being replaced by warehousing and homes that use a lot less water. The growth here is mind boggling every time I come. When I am here, I understand the allure of spending winters here.

It is snowing at home. This was yesterday, mid 70s by the pool. We have to go back tomorrow That's my wife, not me taking pics of random women at the pool

We have a daughter in Chandler and a BIL in Surprise…we only go out there to visit in the winter. It’s COLD at night and in the morning. It’s usually about 10ish before it starts to warm up. BIL says they have more frost delays on the golf courses than when he lived in Maryland!

Isn't the rational that acre for acre, farming uses more water that people? I was also not buying it until that came up.
Still boggles my mind that they flood irrigate lawns in the city and it' snot at all unusual to see sprinkler systems going in the hottest part of the day.

Flood irrigation for homes is no longer provided. The governor shut down the Saudi farm sucking water to grow horse feed for their racehorses. But that was outside the PHX metro. The interesting fact is the Native American tribes control access to a vast aquifer under the metro area.

I understand they probably aren't letting new users have flood irrigation but pretty much all the central city areas below the canals continue using it.
