Is that a NGK? If so you should send them that pic.

Good idea.

My sister-in-law has a Santa Fe Sport now that I think about it.
Which engine are you dealing with, Vinny?
I think hers is a 2.0L turbo but not sure.

VINMAN 03-01-2024 11:45 AM

It's the turbo.

Been doing a little on-line research, seems Hyundai has a proprietary plug made for them and that's why they aren't available from resellers.
From what I've read you're lucky the porcelain didn't shatter and lunch the motor.

Hyundai borrowing a trick from Porsche...go figure.

Sounds like the factory chose the wrong heat range for the turbo'd motors.

This,I would be inclined to try one step up or down in heat range

I bet JB weld could fix that ;)

$30 is outrageous.

Yeah I'll never complain about the price of marine parts again...

Thanks Steve!

I remember paying $16 a plug in 84' for my first Porsche, 1969 911S. Thought that was outrageous!

Bosche platinums...my fading memory says the numbers ended in 21.

What about the 100k 10 years warranty?

Should the repair be covered?

If that’s the powertrain warranty, you should have just dropped it off at the dealer and said, “fix it.”

Try a Nissan V6 Xterra or a Volvo V70R....they are more like $60 each.

But there are lots of alternatives available for $10 each.

1990C4S 09-25-2024 03:02 PM

What Trim level and what engine??

Looks like there's a 2.4 and 2.0Turbo...

masraum 09-25-2024 03:41 PM

I haven't changed a plug in years, but I remember when most of them were 99¢ each, and the expensive Bosch platinums were <$5. I think NGKs were $1.99.

These new plugs are crazy $$$. Seems like every car must take specialty plugs. You'd think they'd engineer them to be mostly the same.

masraum 09-25-2024 03:49 PM

I was curious, so I checked my 2008 Boxster S.

O'Reilly - $3.99 - 13.49
Advance Auto $4.99 - 15.32 (Bosch copper)

I was then curious about Bosch. They used to make platinum plugs. I thought for Sure (Bosch - German) would probably make several options for my car, Copper, Iridium, Platinum, etc...
Nope, Bosch only makes 1 plug for my car, it's it's copper/nickel. Now I'm dying to know why they don't make other options. I guess maybe not enough demand.

And Pelican Parts has the Bosch plugs for my car for $10 (vs $15 from Advance).

Another thread resurrected by a bot.

I change the spark plugs on my 14 F150 every hundred thousand miles. Still running on the original cops though.

Speaking of parts not available, I had a 99 Dodge Ram , And the driver’s door mirror glass broke. The glass was not available, so I had to buy an entire assembly.
