Amazon tracking .... it's awesome!
I don't use Amazon often, but am expecting a delivery today and an email said the driver may contact me .... so I was gonna hang around mi casa until .... but I gots stuff to do :(.
Now I can see which of my neighbors' porches I need to visit without following the dang truck around ;). |
I like the little map with the truck chugging along. Once I saw it on the map sitting at one house for a half hour.:D
|
^^^ That's the one I'm talking about ... about 6 months back I was watching the truck working it's way through my 'hood. No 30 minute stops tho'...
|
And they usually take a photo of the package on your porch to show you it is there, and where on the porch. Not all the drivers do it, but most do. I have a security system with one of the cameras on the front porch. It alerts me when a person or even an animal get on the porch. Usually about the time I get the package, I receive an email of the photo of the product as well.

I have seen "arrives by 10 pm" posted on my track orders tab and get an email with photo it has arrived. Pre-pandemic, Amazon had tours of the warehouse centers where you walk thru how an order is picked and how products are warehoused. It is fascinating. These tours are vitual. https://amazontours.com/ |
on another related note FedEx SUCKS.

I live in Columbus, Ohio. We are a major Amazon hub. Our service here is amazing. I can get some items delivered in hours. I will order at 9pm, and its sitting on my doorstep at 6AM.

I have instructions to leave packages behind a short wall that surrounds my front porch, not behind the iron gate that you can see through. 9 times out of 10 they do this. The front door has steps and is under cover, half of the 8 feet to the wall is uncovered.
So night before last the driver placed a soft package behind the gate in view of the street. This package contained a small plastic vitamin bottle and could have easily been scooted back under the overhang, but it was left there in the open for all to see in the pouring rain. BTW, the packaging is not water resistant. Brilliant, wouldn't you say? I have never seen an Amazon driver that didn't look like a highschool dropout and they prove this now and then. |
This tracking is all about driver efficiency and grinding just a bit more out of their employees. They are simply giving you a peak at a small part of the program.

The strange part of their delivery is they can leave a package at the front door with no signature.
But if I see them pull in and walk out the door to save them some walking....I have to sign for it. |

^^^ It was a tablet, but much smaller than a UPS one.
I remember that I used my finger to sign and gave it back to him saying..."Thanks". Got about two steps toward the house and he said "How do you spell your last name?" Weird...maybe they have to guard against giving the package to someone just walking thru? |
Yeah, I've had my name asked to be sure. Funny, you usually already have the package in front of you and you can just read the name off the label. I say is that for .....? first.
