Montana LLC to register your car

Has anyone used this service to register a vehicle it with a Montana LLC ?
https://www.49dollarmontanaregisteredagent.com/order/vehicle-llc
Looking at a wrangler with a super charger on BAT and will either (upon winning ) register it as a Cali. car or this option
What say all?

I’ve noticed quite a few cars in other states, registered to Montana. I figured it was a way to avoid something.

Is an LLC required?
Seen a few around here in Massachusetts. What’s the perk? Sales tax, inspections, other?

As a young pup ... NC had a cap of $300 on a new Supra Turbo purchase when I lived in Jax (Fl was a LOT more) so that was easy for me . Many big a$$ sailboats, etc. in Jax were registered in GA back then.

Every state get$ their$ ... No state income taxes in FL ....

Touri$t$ .... so pick yer poison ...

Folks with multilple houses in different states .... working from home...

Which home?

But if ya play wif fire .... insurance won't

The scam here is Maine. You can register a trailer in Maine through an agent. No annual inspection required. Here in Va I see a ton of logging trucks with Va tags on the tractor and Maine tags on the trailers. Scary.
And yeah, property tax avoidance. It can be onerous here in Va-in the horsey world folks with big trailers with fancy living quarters could be billed more than a grand a year in tax on the trailer, so register in Maine. Better hope your neighbor doesn't narc you to the tax authorities though...they have no sense of humor about it.
They did finally close the farm tag loophole here. Now you have to prove you meet criteria and buy from VDOT. It became insane before (in part because of covid but not entirely). There's a photo of someone (rumor is The Rock but who knows) driving around C'ville in a Lambo Hurican with "Farm Use" plates. No reg, so no tax, no inspection, no annual fee...

Around here you see lots of Louisiana "Commercial" plates. On ratty cars. Driving around Houston. with 4 kids bouncing around inside. CLEARLY they are a commercial business entity performing business and non-private activities within the state of Louisiana, and therefore can get the dirt cheap Commercial plates.

I was looking at this Jeep https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2000-jeep-wrangler-77/
it might not pass smog test here in CA.
One of the comments suggested that keep it's Montana plates by going the LLC route

I think the most important thing if you want to go this route is to make sure your insurance will cover in case things go pear shaped.

The Montana LLC/ plates option is not bullet proof. If you plan on driving the jeep as a daily/ or even use it often, CHP will see you driving on the same freeway at the same time and nab you. City police will also spot it so you do have a level of concern. If you are using it as an occasional CC vehicle or have a collection that you are rotating you have a better chance of avoiding enforcement.

The comments about insurance are not accurate. The firm that sets up your LLC can connect you with a broker who will insure with full knowledge you are domiciled in CA. Hagerty will also support MT plates with vehicle in CA physicial location.

FYI - there are more motorhomes registered in MT than there is population.

You're half right. The Rubicon was available in late 2002, I know this because I offroaded next to 2 of them, and I stopped driving my truck in early 2003.

You're in San Diego. Don't.
CHP is trained on this now and will stop any "funny" montana car nowadays.
The fact yours would look "normal" may help a bit but if you ever get pulled over, they determine you live here, the may keep the car or make it really painful. I read about this in Legal files in sports car market and I don't recall the details anymore but it was enough for me to think "never mind, not worth it".

It's really irritating we have to live under Federal rule + all the weird little Cali amendments.. You can import anything >25y in the country, except if you need to pass CA SMOG.. Ugh.. Make up a single rule already !

If you walk through the driver/teams RV park at the Rolex Daytona 24 you'll see most of the super high-end RV's with Montana tags.
