Let’s discuss Hot tub chemicals…chlorine alternatives

What do you use other than chlorine for your hot tub? Wanting to get away from chlorine but not looking for an involved system. What are you using that’s gentle on the skin and able to keep up with daily use?

I use Bromine tablets. No fancy floating dispenser, I put about 5 in a small draw string nylon bag and toss it in. Not nearly as harsh as chlorine and the water is clear

I used one of those mineral cartridges-a "frog" or whatever they're called, to cut back on bromine use.
The best thing I've had, though, was an Ecosmarte - https://www.ecosmarte.com/pool-spa - used on a swimspa. Not cheap, the spa system is 1600, but no odor or chemicals at all. It uses ti and copper plates and an electric current to generate sanitizing copper ions. You do have to keep acidity in line for it to work, but easy and worth it. Only negative is that it can turn bleached blond hair green, reversible with lemon juice.

My tub was bought in 2015 and has an ozone system and "clear ray" light system. I do use chlorine, but these technologies keep it to a very low level. No issues with odor or skin problems and if there were, my wife would be all over it :-)
