944 question

Need some help with a 944 electrical question.
Car was running but quit.
Turning the key to ON, none of the dash lights light up now.
Is there a master fuse in the electrical system and if so where is it located?

TIA. Asking for a friend.

Fuel pump relay?
I keep a spare in the glove box.

When it dies, it's as someone turned the key off.
Swap the relay, and starts right up.
As soon as the spare is used, grab another one from Pelican and stick it back in the glove box.

Would it keep the dash lights from lighting up?
Or would/does it just kill the fuel pump?

Putting this link here for easy access later.

I'm not electrically inclined so this is Greek to me.

Early or late 944?
Early 83 - 85
Late 85.5 - 89

Since it's a 944, the first thing is always "Check your grounds", but a marginal ground shouldn't keep the dash lights from coming on.

If there's no dash lights and no crank no start, I'd start with things not on the ignition circuit. If you open the door, does the dome light come on? Do the parking lights work? What's the battery voltage?

I don't believe there's a master fuse on either the early or late cars.

It's an '85, rockfan4.
Not sure if he'll be interested in checking things out, it's up for sale 'as is' as he's lost interest in it.

My first step not mentioned would be a battery check.
After that, work from there checking connectivity.

Good news. Find the short and the car will work.
Bad news. Something else will break.

(if I recall, my early model 944 (the one with the square instrument cluster/dash, not the later rounded one) had an intermittent short in the ignition switch. It may have been my 924 (same layout)-I don't remember- but same deal. I have purged this memory from my records...

I've said too much I don't want to encourage this endeavor!

Good luck. :)
