Saw a Carrera GT Today

Saw a carrera gt Driving 25mph the other way while i was on my bike ride.

Thing sounded sooo good. I pointed at him and he blipped the throttle.

You know that sound when your car has just had its valves adjusted? It was like that but 10 cylinders instead of six, and just perfect and clean and good.

Ive heard a bunch of nice sounds coming from engines but never something so soft sweet and seductive as this. Im sure the exhaust is tuned to sound a certain way but they seemed to reward the mechanical sounds kn this one.

Ive seen them in magazines and i guess i dont really care for their looks but… i never knew they sounded like that. Changes everything.

Later on a new gt3rs passed going the other way. Sounded like baron harkonen clearing a big gob from his throat.

Im a hater at heart but i like that carrera gt.

They do sound good. They have that tiny clutch and flywheel so revs are instant at the blip of the throttle.

Wheel bolt/nut torque.

The Carrera GT has center-lok wheels that require a lot more torque.

At Porsche Palooza in Eureka Springs, AR every early November, there are amazing cars. One year there were two Carrera GTs and one 918 along with multiple 911 GT 3 RS, One GT2RS, and lots of GT3s and Turbos. It is an fun few days driving fantastic back roads.

I had a Carrera GT behind me and deliberately drove slow on one safe passing area just so it would pass me and I could hear that engine scream.

It is so cool to see a 918 covered in road dirt and bugs from being driven, and not in some museum collection.

I remember when these were new. We had one show up for a couple of our local PCA track days and then never saw it again. Too bad, it sounded great on track.

I've never actually seen one out on the open road. One would think, in the tech rich Seattle area, they would have been as common as Teslas.

Interestingly, the new base Boxster supposedly laps the 'Ring faster.

Jeff, if you were at the 2005 Treffen you saw the silver one.

I got to torque them on my pals cup car at VIR. The wrench is the length of a floor jack handle.

Different nut tho. The CGT and GT3 are multi tooth vs. a big hex nut.

Was that Sonoma or Monterey? It all runs together after awhile. I do remember seeing one, I think it was Monterey. Can't remember which year, though.

Wow - we'll be holding our 25th Treffen this year. Where does the time go?

Tervuren 03-20-2024 12:54 PM

I've only ever seen one parked in a parking lot.

They look fragile and small, as if not meant to share the roads even with cars of their day, let alone the honkers that have come out from then to now.

rwest 03-20-2024 12:59 PM

I saw one once at the local dealer shortly after they came out, I was there buying some parts and the owner of the GT needed something repaired and was being a prick about it!

Stand alone - car size can be deceiving. It is small by itself.

Vs a 96 Turbo it looks bigger.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710969228.jpg

FWIW the 917 is tinier than most percieve it.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710969337.jpg

However, the 96 turbo is not massivily bigger than the original 911's.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710969523.jpg

So I'm not sure if I have a point.

masraum 03-20-2024 02:04 PM

Many, many years ago, I also saw one going the other way at 25-35mph (I was in my car). I hung a quick U-turn and tried to catch up, but I had to wait for the opportunity to U-turn, and never did find it. I also saw a Pagani H... like that once, but didn't try to U-turn to follow it.

Tervuren 03-20-2024 02:06 PM

It's more than just size, small can also look tough.

The lines of the car with how it cuts out from itself in shape is a major part of it.
