I had no idea free tires were in demand
On a whim, I put some old tires I took off my E28 BMW on Craigslist "Free Stuff"
205/60 R15. We'll see if "Luis" comes by in a half hour or so. I didn't think much of it, came back an hour later and there were 10 replies. |
New tires have gotten crazy expensive. Some people are thrilled to get usable tires free. Or even cheap. I know someone that occasionally sells old tires and usually gets $20 each if they will hold air.

Our daughter and her husband wanted a bigger back patio, so in preparation, they pulled out about (20) 8x16 pavers and stacked them up. They posted a free ad on FB marketplace and they were gone within a day.

Who wouldnt? The problem is they charge so much for putting them on anymore and you dont know if there is a hidden problem until they are installed. Plus you have to do it again soon when the new set is bald. But if you have a guy that can do it cheap enough then great. Iv been running free tires on my tahoe for 10 years. My brother works at a shop sometimes an hvac company replaces tires for no good reason and they are the right size for it. So I have 3 sets theyll probably outlast the truck

There is a guy in my neighborhood who will take anything put out for free and then sells it online for whatever he can get.

People that do a lot of city driving on high mileage cars don't care.

How do used tires get mounted? I can't imagine a tire shop willing to do that

I've done it myself in the driveway. (as a matter of fact, I took these tires in question off some used wheels I bought for my E28 BMW)
A bottle jack and something to wedge it to (Like a truck bumper-hitch) to break the bead and a couple of HF tire irons and the tires are off, two minutes to pop the new ones on the rim. |
Curious Herr Oberst why you were contacted by those 10 replies.
Did you post the address where they could be picked up? And these folks asked for clarification of something.......or if you could hold the tires for them? |

Always wondered about liability on those. Most of mine get a plug sooner or later, so I don't want "free tire guy" to come after me if it blows 50K mi later... Maybe overthinking it but I jsut let the local shop have them. Even almost new ones.

I have 8 old lawn and garden tractor tires I wish someone would take . I have been dragging my feet to drop them off at local tire shop and pay the disposal fee .

Didn't expect this. I've got two tires that I took off my 911 when I replaced all four in 2018, and one or two off my now-gone Accord. I suppose I might as well list them for free - better than paying for disposal.

^^^ When you do spring yard cleanup, make a fire at night and toss them on. :D
