Help me with a High End PC Build.
 

I'm starting to get into 360 degree 4K video editing which is a power hungry monster.

Been quite a few years since I built up a PC machine.

For those of you up to speed with building rocket ships, what do you think of this $1700 system? Good Deal? What would you change?

Hummm I clicked the link but just a blank screen. When I built my latest PC last fall it was as follows:
- Most powerful CPU that Intel had at the time has 24 cores
- Liquid cooling system for CPU
- Largest power supply you can find
- Largest case possible with 6 fans which can be opened completely for cleaning
- MSI mother board lets me run 64GB of RAM
- Largest SSD boot drive (C:\) available
- Three internal 8TB storage drives for immediate saving of videos (I am digitizing my racing videos)
- Five External 6 or 8 TB hard drives These are for long term storage after videos are okay
- Fastest video card with most memory available
- 50 inch Vizio flat screen TV for monitor
- Cordless keyboard and mouse and I have used Logitech for ever.
The whole setup with all the drives and such is not cheap but will let you do video work and be a pleasure to use. You could also add a DVD burner and also a 14 to 20 slot USB adapter so multiple things can be attached.

32Gb Ram to video edit. That’s a joke right? My MacBook has 64 and it’s 5 years old.

Good call. It's been a while since I looked into a custom build of any sort, but I feel like a gaming build and a video editing build while probably similar are probably not identical. If you want to do 4k video editing you probably want a build specifically for video editing. A gaming build is probably better for that purpose than a generic PC, but probably not as good as one built specifically for video editing.

A 1,700 dollar budget is tight. Just a pair of good video cards can cost that. Go for high end video cards with lots of ram. And 64 GB of system ram minimum.

And go with a M.2 Ram modules. They plug right into the motherboard much like RAM memory. They have faster IO than any SSD.

First home PC computers. $2000+ in the early days

Trivia Question for you nerds. And no you can't google it. "What was the clock speed of the first dos PC"

We're talking pre 286 machines. You could boot a machine with 3 files on two 360K floppy disks.

"Autoexec.bat, Config.sys, and System.ini" I believe it was.



Heck we were ecstatic getting CGA and 4 color graphics.

4.77 MHz. I had a one. 4.77 MHz of processing power, 256K (not meg) and twin floppies. I immediately maxed out the RAM, to 640K and aded a 10 MB hard drive! Green text on a black background. Just green or black, no colors, and just a beep tone for sound. I still have my DOS 2.0 floppies. No mouse at all.

Overclocking was a thing back then...

BTTT you need more cooling and more graphics card power from NVIDIA.

no need for a mount when everything was text or ASCII. With 2 colors, it's pretty hard to have graphics.
