Who are you all going to ritually sacrifice?

stevej37 04-08-2024 10:59 AM

It's halfway over here. If I hadn't known...I would have just thought it was a thin cloud.
With the glasses, it shows up great.

Feels like the temp dropped five degrees.:)

90% coverage area here.

GH85Carrera 04-08-2024 10:59 AM

We just had the maximum eclipse here in Oklahoma City. The sun was just a thin crescent. The air temp dropped several degrees. I sat on my back porch and saw it get to 95% or so which was maximum. We had some high thin clouds, but the sun was clear to see.

Ho hum, another eclipse.

That was ok. Street light came on, got semi dark. Not exciting but sort of cool watching it progress.

stevej37 04-08-2024 11:22 AM

I'm glad that I was finally able to see the dark side of the moon.:)

TimT 04-08-2024 11:33 AM

I was doing yardwork when the light got all weird. My neighbors dog went nucking futz, and still are...

I had my welding shield handy so had a peak..... Its no wonder people used to freak out "the end of the world" when things like this happened and they had no explanation..

I saw this explanation using Huskies that offers a little levity..

Our dogs were outside with us. They did not even notice the eclipse, and acted just like normal.

stomachmonkey 04-08-2024 12:02 PM

We had 100% totality.

I've never experienced it before.

When you can take off your glasses and look right at it, mind blowing, other worldly.

We got what they refer to as the Diamond Ring, absolutely spectacular sight. We could even see solar flares peeking out from the edges with the naked eye.

One of the coolest things I think Ive ever seen.

Baz 04-08-2024 12:04 PM

Just got back from a visit with Mom at her assisted living facility. I brought her outside so she could experience the event.

Left to Right: Mom, another resident named Mary, and Corolla...one of the staff.

Did you see any of the inner planets? Sometimes they can be seen as well.

Seahawk 04-08-2024 12:10 PM

vvv Winners, winners, solar eclipse dinners on me.

Yes, saw 3, Venus was one I believe.

MisterB 04-08-2024 12:30 PM

Saw one Venus I believe . The cloaking of darkness was an undescribable experience. Birds flying around. Experience lived up to the hype and amazing weather for West burbs of Cleveland.

I had been biking in shorts and short sleeves when it started. By the time it was almost over, I had long pants and a hoodie on. The temp dropped quickly.

It was sunny here and around 3 it slowly got dark. My auto headlights came on even though it was still fairly light. Even the outdoor lights in the grocery store came on. It got as dark as when a big thunderstorm is heading my way. By 3:30 it was back to normal.

We were in the 80% range at work in Georgia. It got a little dusky looking while I was driving around the test track.

We got about 2 minutes of totality. I was expecting 4 minutes, but I found out we would have had to be about 50 miles north to get the full 4 minutes.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1712656001.jpg

I used an SLR without a filter - not the best for photographing an eclipse. But I did pick up a big solar flare at about 4 o'clock in this photo.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1712656001.jpg

At totality you could see a lot of smaller solar flares from 3 to 6 o'clock on the disk.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1712656001.jpg

This was the horizon at the point of totality.

wdfifteen 04-09-2024 02:24 AM

Some people we know were totally freaked out by the eclipse. One of Vicki's friends closed her blinds and spend the eclipse in the her basement. Another friend, who is normally a pretty smart guy, though there was a real possibility this was the end of the world.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1712656420.jpg

I told Vicki the sun would not come back unless we wore yellow - the color of the sun - and performed the Bawanna Janda ritual during totality. She was buying it until I told her Bawanna Janda = BJ. :D:D
