Phone case
ISO a phone case that holds a couple of credit cards; slim, weatherproof are plusses.
There're ten jillion of them out there. Whats good? What's bad? |

Do you want checkbook style, bumper style, mag case safe...? |
That is exactly what I have. Carries three cards. Four is a push. I am lean and streamlined. I am writing at 11:44PM and my phone is nowhere near. No idea the brand but you are on the right track. I can track down the brand tomorrow.

ones that hold cars, can you still magnet mount in your car?
I tried a checkbook style and it was huge. Need a new case so timely thread. Hardback credit card wallet is super small but would be great to have only phone and keys. |
There are card cases that stick on to the back of a naked phone or a phone case, so you can mix/match phone case and card case.
I wonder about magnet mounting with a back-mounted card case - seems the magnet wouldn't be good for the card stripes, not sure if it matters to the card chip. Certainly the wireless charger won't work through credit cards. You can load a credit card(s) into the phone, and stuff a $20 and your driver's license into the case behind the phone. I don't use a case anymore. Current iPhones are rugged and waterproof enough to use naked. |
Here's the issue: I do a lot of gravel cycling. When I'm up in the hills, I want my phone handy, and if we find ourselves in a small town, it's nice to grab a snack so a card or cash is good to have. Finally, I like to have some ID and my insurance card in case the paramedics need that.
This is the phone case I'm currently using. It barely fits into my top bag, and it's a pain to get the phone or the cards and cash out of it. It's also not waterproof, so if the rain comes, I need to put it in a plastic bag that I have to also carry. So, Ideally, a slim, hard, waterproof case that allows full phone functionality, and has a slot or a flap for a very thin stack of cards and cash. I was just hopin' that someone had a recommendation. This isn't ideal: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1713282733.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1713282733.jpg |
I have the thinnest one I could find just so my phone does not pop out of my hand like a grape seed. Found that the ones that hold cards are bulky.

My gf bought me a case like this in Korea. Then we got new phones a couple months later.

looks like a case for me but wouldn't magnet mount on the car.
Now I wonder if I could put my 3 main cards into Apple Pay (don't use it now) so they are gone and put my license between the phone and metal plate under the case |
I use a Speck case for my iPhone but I cut a rectangle out of the back of it. This makes my credit card holder on the back of the phone a little thinner, in addition to sticking to the back of the iPhone better.

I have a leather Otterbox case that has a cover with a pocket inside. When my phone died, I had to stay with the same model so I could keep the case. Last year the cover finely broke off, but I was able to buy the exact same one from Amazon.

It will work with a magnet. I used it with my Scosche mag mount. I just taped the metal plate inside the flap.

I was at a hotel with my BIL and both of our door cards stopped working. When we went to reception to get into our rooms the person told us they did not work because we had them in our pockets against our phones. |

Ok. Here is my follow up. I (and wife) both have a Smartish brand IPhone case. I have three cards in it. That is. And I traveling internationally with this as I write.
Don’t think a magnet would work. It doesn’t have one. Not waterproof. It was pretty cheap on Amazon and has lasted for several years daily use. For what it does, I am a fan. There are limitations as I listed above. |

I do quite a bit of road cycling and love this mount for my bike. It's secure and doubles as my bike computer. Also nice is that I have a magnetic mount for my car and another for the boat. All very secure. Doesn't help with keeping credit cards and ID but might leave more room in your bike bag for that.

Seems like that Top tube pack would be pretty water resistant. Looks like a sealed zipper.
From a biking perspective (at least for me), waterproof and convenient almost seem mutually exclusive. If rain is in the forecast, I go with a baggie, or grab a potato chip bag or some litter on the side of the road if in a bind. Most panniers aren't really waterproof, more water resistant, and the only ones totally waterproof are ortlieb type bags, but they aren't really easy to get into. I would almost choose a non waterproof case based on credit car/accessibility for 90% of the time, and then worry about waterproof in a second step on the bike for the remaining 10% . Seems like that bag would have nailed it though. Good luck. |
